Over the past two weeks, the Year 4 students have been working hard throughout the week in preparation for the mid-year testing about the commence across the school. The students have also enjoyed participating in a variety of tasks to acknowledge Reconciliation Week currently being recognised around Australia. One of our therapy dogs, Nala, has also stopped by a few times to watch and learn with the students in Year 4… she was very impressed!

Wellbeing

Students are currently revisiting strategies to assist each other when dealing with anxiety and worry. These include ‘deep breathing’ and meditation.

Literacy

Our new spelling program, Word Origins, is being implemented throughout the cohort. Students are learning about the origins of different morphemes and completing tasks based these morphemes. Writing sessions are currently focusing on persuasive writing.

Maths

Over the coming weeks, students will be learning about area, perimeter and solving measurement problems focusing on length. The ongoing practice of a ‘daily review’ at the beginning of every maths session is continuing to help students retain new maths concepts they have been taught throughout the year.

Knowledge Unit

Our Knowledge Unit, ‘Civics and Citizenship’ will focus on how laws are created and changed over the coming few weeks.

Homework

The Year 4 students are expected to read every night and record their progress in their personal diaries. It is the responsibility of the student to bring their diary to school every day and take it home each night to log their reading. Classroom teachers will be checking and signing these diaries regularly to monitor student reading habits. The student diary will also be used to highlight important dates and reminders. It is also encouraged that students practise their times tables, particularly the 2, 5 and 10 tables as rapid recall tests will soon be happening in classrooms throughout the term.
