Performing Arts: Year 1, 3 & 4

We are so proud of how the Year 1 classes have been working in Performing Arts this term! In small groups, they have created a song about food. They started by brainstorming their favourite things to eat, and then voted on one to be the theme of their song. They came up with a descriptive phrase for the lyrics. After that, they took turns to decide on the notes for each syllable. They played their song on chime bars, and added a percussion rhythm, and a dance move. The final step in this task, was to practice writing the notes using formal notation. They were so focused and careful! Here are some photos of their beautiful work:

Year 3 have been looking at different styles of music, including Funk, Calypso, Boogie Woogie, Rock n Roll and Disco. We’ve had some fun singing and playing along, as well as trying out some new dance moves.

Here’s some of the Year 3’s enjoying performing:

In Year 4, students have also been composing. The theme for their group compositions was ‘Australian Creatures’. 4A wrote songs about mammals, 4B wrote songs about birds, and 4C wrote songs about sea creatures. They researched their creature, finding out the important facts, then used that information for their lyrics. They decided on the notes for the melody as well as added ukulele chords. As part of their Learning Task, students copied the notes and lyrics using traditional notation. Mrs Ullmann arranged each of the songs into one whole composition per class. Students enjoyed doing their versions by adding in other instruments, and lastly, creating a colourful poster for the music room.
