Celebrating Creativity: The Importance of Visual Arts at St Roch’s Featuring Year Prep’s Artistic Journey Inspired by Gabrielle Tito’s “Flowers in a Vase”
At St Roch’s, the visual arts offers our students a powerful way to grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially. Through artistic exploration, they learn to look closely, think critically, express themselves confidently, and work collaboratively with others.
Recently our Year Prep students created artwork inspired by the colourful works of Australian artist Gabrielle Tito. Her series “Flowers in a Vase” provided the perfect springboard for a project rich in exploration and creativity. The students closely examined Tito’s use of pattern, colour, shape, and texture.
In the art room, the students experimented with a range of tools and painting techniques to produce their own textured painted papers. They then transformed these papers into eye-catching tablecloth designs, each featuring a unique vase bursting with floral arrangements.
This project is a shining example of how visual arts enriches learning. While developing fine motor skills and artistic techniques, our students are also building visual literacy, enhancing their observation skills, and cultivating an appreciation for aesthetics and design.
At St Roch’s, we believe that fostering creativity is essential to student growth. The joy and pride on display in our Prep students’ work reminds us that when children are given the tools and encouragement to express themselves through art, they bloom in every way.
