Pilgrims of Hope

Father in heaven,

may the faith you have given us

in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,

and the flame of charity enkindled

in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,

reawaken in us the blessed hope

for the coming of your Kingdom.

Amen

St Roch’s ‘Family Faith’ Event: Preps in Pyjamas!

How special it was to welcome our Prep students and their families to our well-loved faith night ‘Preps in Pyjamas’. A wonderful evening was shared with an exploration of different ways that we can pray to God. The Prep students joined with their families to experience making ‘God’s Eyes’ to watch over and protect us, to listen to the scripture story of the Good Shepherd and also create prayers and candles to use at home for family prayer. We were particularly impressed with the enthusiasm and volume from the Preps of their much loved song ‘These hands, this heart!’

An important prayer we explored was a ‘prayer of gratitude’. This prayer asks us to think of what we are grateful for in our lives. If we can pray to God with our family about ‘3 good things’ every day, this helps our sense of wellbeing and helps us to grow our connection to God.

A special thank you to Alex Granland, Alison Swift, Angie Mastoras and Nadine Bolton for supporting this ‘family faith’ night.

Welcome to Pope Leo XIV!'

Pope Leo XIV was elected pope on the 8th of May. This is the first US-born pope. He studied in Rome and spent many years of ministry in Peru. He is a multi-lingual lawyer and mathematician who chose to dedicate his life to serving marginalised communities. His chosen name ‘Leo’ reflects a commitment to Catholic Social Justice and he wishes to continue his focus on supporting migrants and climate change. His first message to the world called the Church to “move forward united, without fear, guided by Christ”.

We pray that Pope Leo will be strengthened in his ministry. May he continue building bridges that connect us to one another. May he be an example of faith, hope and love.
