Happy Mother's Day!
Dear Families,
Welcome to Issue 7 of our iNewsletter! We hope this newsletter continues to keep you up to date with all the news, events and learning that happens at St Roch's.
It was lovely to come together with our Year 1 and 2 students and families at our Parish Mass last night and then share some supper together. A wonderful way to connect parish to school. Thank you to Louise Bolton, Amber Mangan, Rachel Gray and Lynette Brugliera for joining us.
Our Year Preps were delighted to witness the the life cycle of of caterpillars in the Prep classroom again this year. This is a highlight of the Prep year with links to the RE and Science Curriculums and the Prep theme of 'We are Growing.' Our Prep students are growing day by day and are such a delight!
Alex Granland wrote about this experience... Last term, our Prep students have had an exciting hands-on learning experience watching caterpillars transform into butterflies! We explored the butterfly life cycle and integrated it into our literacy learning. The children engaged in a variety of books about butterflies, helping them build their understanding of the life cycle while developing their comprehension skills. They also wrote about the progress of our butterflies, using their growing knowledge of letter formation, common words, and sentence structure to document their observations. In Religion, we connected this transformation to the Easter story, reflecting on themes of new life and change. Now that our butterflies have been released, the Preps are already wondering—what will our next class pet be?
As we prepare a new flyer for our boards, we would love families to display a board on their front fence for a period of time that can be negotiated. We have currently have three on display with three further families who have expressed an interest. We would like to increase our presence in the local area and welcome any families that may be able to support a display board. Please email office@srgleniris.catholic.edu.au and/or myself if you are interested.
We look forward to showcasing your children at the amazing Production 'Magnifico Melbourne' on Tuesday 3 June starting at 6.30pm. We request that students are onsite at Crossway Centre by 6.00pm sharp!! Please purchase your tickets through Trybooking. An email has been sent with the details. Only 8 sleeps to go!!
What an amazing time we had in Canberra!! Visiting places such as Euroa (Ned Kelly country), Holbrook and Gundagai as well as the National Museum, the National Art Gallery, Questacon, Australian Institute of Sport, the War Memorial and Old and New Parliament House gave us such depth in knowledge and experiences that will be with us for a very long time! We enjoyed learning about the Australian Elections and our Voting system and the Australian Parliament. We travelled to the New Parliament House, had a mock electoral vote at the MOAD Educational centre, lunch at the Arboretum then an educational session at MOAD and a highlight was our drive to Mount Ainslie to see the sunset!! What an absolute delight!!
Thank you to again to all of our staff who will be holding the fort at St Roch's while Nadine Bolton, Louise Bolton, Toni Allen, Max Pinchbeck and Father Gallacher join me on this wonderful trip. Please click on the links below to see our students laying a wreath at the Last Post Ceremony.
The link below will show the St Roch's students at The Museum Of Australian Democracy as we were filmed and interviewed by the ABC journalist Rosie King.
