Year 11 Outdoor Education – Stewardship in Action
On their recent expedition, the Year 11 Outdoor Education classes headed down to the Bibbulmun Track. As part of its long-standing stewardship commitment, Mazenod College is responsible for the area near the Boarding House campsite, which is near Manjimup.
This trip wasn’t just about hiking and camping – it was a chance for students to take responsibility for maintaining and caring for the track and surrounding facilities. After the recent field day identified some key tasks, the students got to work completing a range of important jobs. These included repainting signage to ensure clear and safe navigation for future users of the track, varnishing the hut to protect it from weathering and wear, and maintaining the rainwater tanks to ensure a reliable water supply for visitors. In addition to these, they also carried out the regular maintenance tasks such as clearing the track, removing weeds, restocking the firewood shed, and tidying the campsite area.
The expedition was a great opportunity for students to develop teamwork, leadership, and practical outdoor skills while contributing meaningfully to the upkeep of a valuable community resource. We are proud of the way our students embraced their stewardship role, showing initiative, respect for the environment, and a strong sense of responsibility.
