Principal's Message

Working Bee - Thank You!

A huge thank you to all who came to our working bee on Saturday May 31st.  We were able to complete all the tasks we set for ourselves, with sand pits filled, garden beds mulched and plants staked.  Most significantly we were able to clear out a large section of the orchard garden near Westborne st.  This section is now much safer for play, and ready to be re-imagined by students, staff and community as a purposeful play space.  If you are interested in becoming involved in this work, and in improving our grounds in general, consider joining the grounds sub-committee.  We meet twice a Term to ensure our yard is maintained and continually improved.  We'd love to have your help!

Junior Landcare Grant

Speaking of our grounds team, we are pleased to announce we have been successful in applying for a Junior Landcare Grant.  Landcare Australia have awarded the school $4,380 to bring back pollinators and small bird habitats to our school grounds.  The funds will be going towards planting along our Sheffield St boundary, with ground covers, grasses and flowering shrub species to be planted along with bee hotels for our pollinators.  Look out for more information about planting days later this year.

Quadrangle Upgrade Update

We are coming to the exciting part of our quadrangle upgrade, with lots happening over recent weeks.  Over the weekend we had our large planters installed, along with the wooden regulation pods.  The sandstone blocks are being placed and the wooden screening around the stage is being installed as I type this.  We expect the works to be completed by the end of Term 2, with students utilising the space in Term 3. 

The upgrade will transform our quadrangle into a purpose-built regulatory play space.  It will be an area to have some time alone, to chill out with a book, to move to if you have had a disagreement with a friend or conflict in a game.  Having a designated space for regulation in our yard will be an important component of the school's social and emotional curriculum. It will assist us in teaching students how to recognise when they are dysregulated and what their options are to ensure they are safe and able to work towards re-engaging positively in play. 

Get Ready for the Trivia Night and Disco

A reminder we have two big community events coming up thanks to our Parents and Friends Committee. On Saturday June 21 we will be holding the BNPS Trivia Night at Estonia House. This is always a fantastic community event, offering families a chance to connect and enjoy each other's company.

Hot on the heels of this is the annual Student Disco on Friday June 27. This is always a brilliant event, with students letting their hair down in the multi-purpose room entertained by a professional DJ.
