Principal's Message

2025 School Theme - Why Team, Why Team Westbreen

Dear Westbreen PS Families,

A Couple of Thank You Messages

Firstly, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our Education Support Staff who assist our students daily with dedication and a passion for teaching. Your work is truly appreciated by all. Happy Education Support Day on Friday, May 16th.

I also want to thank the staff who helped last week on Thursday and Friday, allowing Mr. Kenny and I to attend the annual Regional Principal Conference. Special thanks to Ms. Pannunzio and Ms. Kristy for leading the school in our absence, and to Ms. Chris and Ms. Villani for supporting the school over those two days along with the rest of the staff.

Thank you Team Westbreen.

Semester Reports

Our staff are currently working diligently on the upcoming reports, as mentioned in the previous edition. This year, we will upload the reports on XUNO; printed copies will be available upon request. Due to various enhancements on XUNO, the reports will follow this format:

Victorian Curriculum Scores Page (includes classroom behaviour & effort)

Each page below will include a blurb on what the students have learnt and an understanding of your child’s outcomes regarding key skills covered over the semester.

  • Literacy Page
  • Mathematics Page
  • Inquiry/Integrated Studies
  • Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships

Please note that Mathematics will have one overall score this year due to the implementation of Maths 2.0. Last year, it was divided into three parts: Number, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.

All Specialist areas will include a summary of what students have learned, an understanding of your child’s outcomes regarding key skills covered over the semester, as well as their behaviour and effort.

Specialist Areas: Italian, Performing Arts and Music, Physical Education, Science, and Visual Art.

Open Day - Wednesday, 14 May

Last week, we welcomed our families into the classroom to celebrate our teaching and learning program at Westbreen Primary School. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our literacy program and the activities around the 2025 Education Week theme, "Celebrating Cultures."

Just a reminder that resources shared last week in the newsletter from the Department of Education can help celebrate this theme and connect to a wide range of cultures in Victorian schools.

Please Get in Your 2026 Foundation Enrolments - Enrolments for Foundation (Prep) 2026 are now open.

Parents are invited to complete their child's enrolment and drop the form off to the school office as soon as possible. To do so, please fill out the school enrolment form and provide proof of your child's date of birth as well as their immunisation record. Once the enrolment process is complete, new students will be added to the register for 2026 classes.

For planning purposes, we kindly ask that parents finalise enrolments by the end of this term. If you have any questions or need clarification regarding the enrolment process, please contact Ms. Kerry Parfett, our Community & Enrolment Facilitator, at Kerry.parfett@education.vic.gov.au.

“Your School, Your Say”

Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) by the Years 4-6 students

Thank you to the Year 5/6 student that took part in the survey on Monday morning, we appreciate your views and perception on how we can improve learning experiences, peer relationships, health and wellbeing, and safety.

Our Year 4 students will complete the survey on the following day:

  • Monday, 2nd of June - Year 4

We are looking forward to analysing the data once it’s available to ensure we are tailoring for our students needs.

A big shout out to our school captains and house captains currently working in Year 5/6 classes with our teachers to audit student voice agency and what it looks, sounds and feels like in our school and classroom. Impressive work by these students as they continue to take great ownership over the process.

Reminder

Just a reminder to all families that students cannot be on the school grounds after 3:30pm at the end of each day without a parent. If your child is walking or riding their bike home, they will need to leave the school grounds when the dismissal bell for the end of the day sounds. We have a number of students attempting to stay on school grounds unsupervised after 3:30pm. In this event, your child will be directed to leave the school grounds as no one should be on the playground or multi-purpose pitch playing without parental supervision. If your child/ren are in this situation, can you please discuss this expectation with them to ensure their safety.

Could I also request that children and families use the traffic lights at the corner of West Street and Pascoe Street each morning and afternoon when crossing the road. It's important for everyone's safety.  I've noticed some families crossing the road without using the lights, which can be unsafe due to the traffic around the school grounds.

Thank you for the week, Team Westbreen.
