Dear Students, Staff and Families,

We have had an excellent start to 2025.  When moving around the school throughout Term 1, I consistently observed a calm and orderly learning environment with students actively participating in learning activities. When reviewing Compass, I can see that teachers have been recognising students’ positive contributions to classes and their demonstration of our school values, and we have had a significant decrease in negative behaviours. When meeting with new staff it has been heartening to learn of their warm welcome into our community.

I am pleased to report that the Department of Education’s School Performance report for 2024 assessed Elwood College’s overall performance as High. The 2024 Annual Report was presented to School Council and has been accepted by the Department of Education.

In Term 1 of 2025, teachers have been planning and implementing The Victorian Curriculum 2.0, aligning Elwood College’s Instructional Model with The Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 and focusing on implementing Positive Classroom Management Strategies.  It is important to acknowledge the work of teachers is incredibly complex, and it is the professionalism, dedication and commitment of our teachers that leads to our school’s positive academic and wellbeing outcomes.

Students have had access to a wide range of curriculum and co-curriculum activities, and there are many achievements to celebrate.  I encourage students and families to discuss Progress Reports and plan for Term 2 learning.

I wish all in our school community a restful, healthy and fun holiday!

Regards,

Todd Asensio
