Class Information
ST MARY MACKILLOP OF THE CROSS AWARDS
Well done to Kyson N, Alby H, Hudson S, Eloah H, Chloe C, Hazel M who were our most recent award recipients. These students have demonstrated the spirit of St Mary MacKillop through their compassion, initiative and love of learning.
We have officially made it to the middle of the term. We hope you are all rugging up and keeping warm now that the cold weather has set in.
GRADE 1 & 2 UPDATE
Year 1
- In literacy: learning about adjectives and verbs and investigating words with ‘ue’ as ‘glue’ and ‘ew’ as blew’.
- In numeracy: Comparing and measuring mass, capacity and length.
Year 2
- In literacy: learning how to visualise and ask questions while reading, revising the spelling rule ‘drop the e, add ing’, investigating words with ‘ar’ as in star, and extending our knowledge of nouns.
In numeracy: Place Value and Length using informal units.
HOMEWORK
We will now be sending home weekly spelling homework based on the words your child has been learning in class.
These will include both phonically regular words and tricky words.
For regular words, your child may break it into sounds, draw sound boxes, and write it out while saying each sound.
They’ll also be encouraged to use the word in a spoken and written sentence, followed by reading it aloud.
For tricky words, your child will practice writing each letter and using the word in a sentence.
