Science
Foundation have been ‘on the move’ in their science unit investigating the effects of shape, size and surface on how far things roll.
They have been rolling their bodies (such fun outside on the grass hill to the oval!), and then comparing how far different sized marbles and balls roll depending on size and the surface of what they are being rolled on.
To finish off the term with some ‘push & pull,’ we are making pom pom launchers and will try and launch our pom poms to land in a coloured hoop!
Grade 1/2 have enjoyed investigating and experiencing sounds and sight this term as they have discovered more and more about how sound and light travel.
In the past couple of weeks they have been investigating just how we rely on a light source to be able to see anything, and how light travels in straight lines from the light source to the object which reflects its image into our eyes so we see it.
We have also investigated how sounds travel in waves and vibrations (of an object or through the air) to create the sounds that we hear.
Last week the children represented their understanding of how light and sound travel using drawings.
Gr 3/4 students have represented and explained their understanding of how heat can be produced and can be transferred from object to object via heat conductors using everyday scenarios and then by planning and creating a poster warning others about the dangers of heat.
These posters have then been displayed in the science room.
In our final week of term 3, students will complete an assessment task to conclude our unit on ‘heating up’
Gr 5/6 students have had hands-on, shared experiences of how light travels, including exploring how to make light travel around a corner using mirrors.
To support this learning in a more practical manner, the students have also had the opportunity to make a basic periscope, demonstrating light travelling in straight lines and being reflected around corners using mirrors.
They have also recorded and represented their understanding of light using ray diagrams and written descriptions.
In our final week of term 3, students will complete an assessment task to conclude our unit on ‘Light Shows.
