Kingfisher Concert

Student Reflections

Last Thursday night, our school performed at the Kingfisher Concert, which was held at the Albany Entertainment Centre for the public and GSG families.

Ms Luxton has asked me to say a special thank you to the stage crew who changed the stage 21 times for the different items, and they made it go incredibly smoothly. So, thank you to Colin Ferreira, Matilda Comer, Audrey Cherry, Katie Hartzel, and Riley Jenkins.  I was mostly backstage during the night and got to know all the younger children. Many wanted signatures from the older kids to fill up their sheets of paper and had drawing competitions to win 'money.' There were many different circles of people from every year's group chatting, playing card games, eating lollies, and, I would guess, having a great time. But what was so amazing was how everyone ensured the younger years were having fun. Most of them had their first concert, so we wanted to make it memorable. We also got to listen to the songs playing on the screen backstage, which was a wonderful addition, and we could hear and see the ensembles perform pieces they had been working on months before the performance.

If you enjoy music at all, I highly recommend participating in this wonderful experience next year.

I performed in and was stage-handing for the Kingfisher Concert. During the day rehearsal, it was incredible to see what all the other students had been working on all year because, for me, at least, I only saw performances that I was in up until that day. I loved being able to watch everybody play their songs and perform in my own. Throughout the night, the audience of parents, friends, and the Albany community got to experience a massive range of different performances. These included jazz, strings, vocals, VET music class performances, and our amazingly deafening pipe band. A highlight of the night for me was during a rare pause in the stage handing organising, where the stage crew and a few staff members got to watch the primary school rock band from the wings. The energy coming from our junior school rock band was completely awesome, especially from guitarist Jai with his solo. I also really enjoyed being able to work with really talented students, both as a stagehand and as a performer. I was lucky enough to be a part of both the opening piece, which was Pink Panther with Saxophone Ensemble, and the Finale, which involved many students from all areas of music in Also Sprat Zarathustra.

I wanted to say a massive thank you to Ms Luxton, Mr Fowler, Mr Manson, Miss Thomas, and all other staff members for making this possible and giving around 150 students an amazing night to showcase the musical pieces that we have worked on. Last of all, thank you to the music students who made the night unforgettable and a highlight of the year.  Audrey Cherry | Student

Cinefest

Congratulations to all our entrants this year to the Cinesnaps Youth Short Film Competition. Winners were announced last Thursday evening at Cinefest in Busselton. Max Cruse and Grace Eckersley won the Year Seven to Nine Category, whilst Grace Franzinelli and Colin Ferreira's films were very well received.

Rhythms: Whole School Arts Exhibition

Sunday afternoon was a visual feast for all who attended our Arts Exhibition. We were treated to beautiful Albany sunny weather, perfect for enjoying an absurdist play outside the hall! Years Eleven and Twelve Drama students put on Ionesco’s Rhinoceros. There was a range of films from animations to Italian fairytales to be seen in our cinema room! The hall was transformed into an art gallery to view the wonders of creativity from students throughout the school. It was a fantastic celebration of our student talent!
