In Foundation, students have been taking action in their inquiry learning by creating their own push pull toy. They have learnt about the difference between push and pull forces, inquired into different materials and upcycled everyday items from how to create their own push/pull toy. We invited our families to visit our toy museum where the creators explained their inspiration, described their plan and how they made their toys.
The school swimming program began Monday 9th September. The students were very excited to be travelling to the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre for a 30 minute swimming lesson. As the week worn on, everyone was still excited, their swimming and personal organisational skills improved but everyone was getting very tired. The swimming program continues daily until Thursday 19th September.
3/4 Melbourne Museum Excursion
Our recent excursion to the Melbourne Museum was a valuable learning experience for the 3/4 cohort. The highlight of our visit was the time spent exploring the ‘People and Culture’ exhibit, where students were introduced to the history and traditions of the First Peoples of Victoria
During our time in the exhibit, students had the unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the rich and diverse cultures of the First Peoples. They learned about the practices for acknowledging the traditional custodians and their vital role in Australia's history. This exhibit helped students to appreciate the importance of respecting and recognising the traditions and contributions of the First Peoples, not only in the past but also in our lives today.
In Week 10, our students will proudly present their biographies of an Australian migrant at the 'Aberfeldie Immigration Museum' as part of our 'Time and Place' unit. Over the past two weeks, students have been busy drafting and publishing these biographies, having spent time in reading sessions analysing the structure and content of various biographies to guide their writing. This work has helped them craft personal stories of migration that reflect Australia's diverse history.
Next week, on September 18th, we will also host a special incursion featuring the ThinkUKnow Australia program. Led by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), this evidence-based initiative educates students about online safety and the prevention of child exploitation. A parent session will be held that evening, and we strongly encourage all parents to attend for valuable insights into keeping children safe online.
