Principal Report

A report from Principal Tyson Smith

As Winter turns to Spring and the term concludes, we can celebrate what was another amazing term at Aberfeldie Primary School, with the swimming programs, 5/6 camp, parent-teacher conferences, several incursions and excursions, book week celebrations, football-themed day, Father's Day celebrations, Trivia night and so much more. What a term it was! On behalf of everyone at Aberfeldie PS, I wish you all a lovely and restful school holiday period. We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Tuesday 8th October for the start of term 4.

Staffing updates:

  • I am thrilled to announce that I will be taking parental leave from 23 October 2024 - 11 February 2025. My husband and I are expecting the arrival of our 2nd child very soon. Erin McNamara will be Acting Principal during this time, which she will do a fantastic job of. I will continue to "pop in" when I can and continue some aspects of my work during this period.
  • Michael Saunders will be taking Long Service Leave in Term 4. Amy Wakelen will be replacing him as the 5/6C classroom teacher during this time. We wish him all the best for his travels.

After School Activities:

We have a variety of after-school activities available for students in Term 4 including Kelly Sports, soccer clinics, Chess Club, Coding club and more. Find the details on the 'Extra-Curricular Activities' tab or speak to reception for more information.

Term 4: Curriculum Days

We have two curriculum days in term 4. We understand that curriculum days (student-free days) are challenging for families, so we have tried to minimise the disruption as much as possible. Our first curriculum day is Monday 7th October. The first day of each term has typically been a curriculum day. The second curriculum day is Monday 4th November. This is the day before the Melbourne Cup and historically we have had very low attendance on this day and have selected this as our final curriculum day to minimise disruption to families. Team Kids will be operating on both of these days for families that require it. We apologise for any disruption.

Trivia Night

Thanks to everyone who participated in the school Trivia night on Friday 13th September. It was a huge success, raising over $5,500 for the school and a great time for all that attended.
