School Captains Report:

As Term 3 draws to a close, I am excited to share a few highlights and reflections on what has been an eventful and enriching period at Scoresby Secondary College. It’s been a term filled with achievements, growth, and memorable experiences for our entire school community.

Term 3 was bustling with extracurricular activities, from sports to arts and beyond. Our school’s production was a standout with showcasing the incredible talent and teamwork of our students, it was a great night which brought the school community together.

We also held a successful fundraising event for R U Ok day, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed.

Your generosity will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.

As we approach the final term of the year, there are several exciting events on the horizon. We look forward to the upcoming Year 12 Valedictory, which promises to be a great way to end the year on a high note.

Additionally, planning is already underway for our Year 10/11 Phillip Island Camp.

Wishing everyone a restful break and a successful start to Term 4!

Vocational Major – Puffing Billy

Vocational major students have been exploring the tourism industry and learning about strategies which businesses use to increase their productivity. Students were very excited and experience tourism in real life with an adventure to puffing billy and travelling through the magnificent Dandenong Rangers, with lush fern gullies brushing past and Mountain Ash trees towering overhead.

Last week, our class had an amazing adventure that I'll never forget—we went on an excursion to Puffing Billy! If you haven’t heard of it, Puffing Billy is this awesome steam train that chugs through the beautiful Dandenong Ranges.

The day started with a lot of excitement. Before the train departed Josh and James were lucky enough to go sit in the drivers seat of the train. It was fascinating to learn about the train’s past and how it’s still running today thanks to the efforts of so many dedicated volunteers.

Once we were on the train, we took our seats and watched as the countryside whizzed by.

It was such a cool experience feeling the breeze and hearing the puffing of the steam engine up close.

During our stop at Emerald Lake Park, some of us had a picnic and explored the park’s beautiful surroundings and others went into the café and the museum. It was a nice break from the train ride and gave us a chance to relax and enjoy the fresh air.

Overall, our trip to Puffing Billy was an unforgettable experience filled with fun, learning, and adventure. It was also very interesting learning how the tourism industry uses different strategies to improve the experience and profit.

Habits of Highly Effective Students and How to Develop Them in 2024

Study habits are the most important predictors of academic performance. Students must learn and apply study skills to organise and learn a large amount of information.

Evidence suggests that those who lack study strategy knowledge do not achieve effective and stable learning, and, thus, do not perform well academically. (Jafari et al., 2019)  In other words, higher achievers use these skills more than lower achievers.

For more information visit.   (Year 12 Students will be going over this in a study skills session in final week of term).

Congratulations - Sebastian Bennett

Sebastian was selected to represent Australia at the World Skate Games in Italy as the goalie for the Junior Men’s Inline Hockey team.

Inline hockey is very similar to Ice Hockey however instead of ice skates it’s played on roller blades.

He has been playing inline hockey for the last 13 years and finally reached his dream of being selected for the Australian team.

The tournament is running from the Sunday 8 September - Monday 16 September in Roccaraso, Italy.
