Centre of Italian Studies (CIS)- Junior Italian Poetry Competition 2024
This year again, our Years 7-8 were invited to compete in the CIS- Junior Italian Poetry Competition. This took place at the college on Thursday 5 September. A judge visited the college to hear 45 students recite their chosen poems from a list of many famous poems and artists.
This year, for the first time, students were given the opportunity to write their own guided poem. A number of students elected to do this.
Students gathered prior to the recitation and helped each other rehearse their poems. One by one students were called in to recite their chosen poem and each one came out with a smile on their face.
The judge, Giorgia, was impressed with the performance of our students commenting on how bravissimi they were and how beautiful their pronunciation was. We are very proud of the students and their efforts and congratulate all of them for participating in this event. Now we eagerly wait for the results.
Melbourne Italian Festa 2024
If you love all things Italian or simply want to take the family out, why don’t you head along to the Melbourne Italian Festa 2024. Formally known as the Lygon Street Festa, last year the festival was reinvented and for the first time held at the Royal Exhibition Building & Museum Plaza. It was such a huge success that this year they are running it over two days:
- Saturday 5 October - 3pm to 11.30pm
- Sunday 6 October - 11am to 7pm
It will be a celebration of Italian culture and tradition with live music, Italian cuisine, cooking demonstrations, exhibitors selling Italian goods, entertainment, food & market stalls and so much more.
Enjoy a slice of pizza or two, or a delicious gelato from some of the well-known Italian businesses here in Melbourne. Dance along to the tarantella or sing along with the children learning Italian at CO-AS-IT. There is something for all ages.
“The Melbourne Italian Festa is a magical gathering where the Italian community and everyone who's head over heels for Italian culture come together.”
Go along and celebrate all things Italian. Entry is free.
