Holy Cross Happenings

First Eucharist

Last weekend, we began First Eucharist celebrations with our Year 4 children. After a term filled with learning and preparation, the children received the Holy Eucharist for the first time.

We thank Fr Vincent, Tracey McKenna, Sheree Sullivan and Sian Leighton for supporting the children throughout their learning.

We pray for them and for the children receiving their First Eucharist this weekend. May God be with them on their special day and throughout their lives.

Holy Cross Feast Day

Today, we came together as a school community to celebrate our special day — the Feast of the Holy Cross. The day began with a whole school prayer gathering, beautifully hosted by 6A.

We were honored to present Wally from the Gisborne Foodbank with a wonderful collection of food and toiletry items generously donated by our families over the past few weeks. In fact, there were so many donations that his ute was filled to the brim!

The morning continued with activities in our house groups, where children learned more about the Saints of our Parish — St. Ambrose, St. Brigid, St. Patrick, and St. Mary MacKillop. The children completed art activities and reflections inspired by the lives of their house saint, which were then displayed outside our Prayer Room.

After enjoying a delicious donut for morning tea, the children had an afternoon filled with tabloid fun, thanks to Kaboom Sports!

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the families who were so generous with their donations and to the magnificent staff of Holy Cross, who helped make today a success for all the children of our school.

Battle For Australia Ceremony

On Wednesday 5 of September the year 6’s went to the Shrine Of Remembrance in Melbourne for a ceremony commemorating the battle of Australia. First the were two jets fly over the shrine of remembrance and across Melbourne in a cross shape in commemoration. Then 4 guest speakers spoke about some stories from the Battle of Australia like the vessels HMAS Perth, HMAS Armidale, HMAS Canberra and HMAS Yarra. Then we took a wreath to lay at the eternal flame. Once the service was finished we had lunch and walked around the Shrine. Then we got on the bus and went back to school.

Book Fair

Recently the school had the book fair as part of the book week celebration. We made $3000 in sales. A portion of this will be dedicated to buying books and resources in the library. Thank you to all the parents who helped run the fair and we appreciate all your efforts. - School Captains

Softball

On Wednesday the 11th of September the girls and boys teams went to Dixon field to play softball. They played 4 games, playing St Brigid's and Macedon twice each.

Girls Softball

The girls had a highly successful day, winning 3 out of their 4 games, making it to the finals. Unfortunately the girl's team didn't win the finals, being defeated by only 1 run.

Willow: "The girls had great teamwork and communication and that’s what helped them to win. They also were very supportive and good at cheering each other on. My highlight from the day was when the catcher was throwing the ball back to me and I slipped, dropping the ball. It was very funny."

Boys Softball

The boys worked hard and demonstrated strong teamwork throughout the competition. Although the boy's team didn't make the finals, they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Austin: "Everyone tried their best and had fun. The boys were very good in their batting but their fielding let them down when the other teams had long hits. All the players had turns batting, pitching and fielding."

Axl:  "My favourite moment was when I was up to bat and another student was on third base. I hit the ball long, giving myself and the student on 3rd base a home run."

Ultimate Frisbee

This term, the Year 5 and 6 students have enjoyed a fantastic four-week Ultimate Frisbee program with Charlie from Kelly Sports. Through a series of fun and engaging modified games, the children have been introduced to key movement skills, such as the techniques of throwing and catching a frisbee. The sessions have been a great opportunity for everyone to build their coordination, teamwork, and overall fitness while having fun!
