Term 3 2024
This Term the Waratah group have been busy with a variety of activities. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Our drama session featured the story of Tiddalik the Frog. The children acted out the story, using costumes and props to explore the different parts and themes of the story. They enjoyed bringing the characters to life and participating in the story. There are a number of versions/variations of this Dreaming story. The main themes however are always the same:
Greed - the consequences of Tiddalik’s excessive drinking of all the water represent greed. The story illustrates the consequences of greed, as his actions lead to a drought, affecting all the animals and the environment.
Cooperation /Working Together — The animals work together to solve the problem caused by Tiddalik’s greed. This theme emphasises the importance of collaboration and community in overcoming challenges.
Environment—The story highlights the idea of restoring balance in nature. OnceTiddalik releases the water, the natural order is restored, symbolising the importance of maintaining harmony in the environment
Resource Sharing - The story teaches the value of sharing resources, as the animals suffer due to the lack of water when Tiddalik hoards it. It conveys a message about the importance of fairness and considering the needs of others.
These are themes we discuss regularly at kinder with the children as they relate to the kinder environment also!
The spaces and equipment are regularly added to and changed in order to challenge and stimulate children’s growth and development. It has been wonderful to observe the children demonstrate spatial awareness and orient themselves, moving around and through their environment confidently and safely. They have enjoyed gaining greater skills in climbing, balance and jumping. These areas not only challenge the development of physical skills, but also work on supporting social skills, as children wait their turn, assist others and share the space and equipment.
For Book Week, the children came dressed as their favourite book characters. The children talked about their character and book if they chose to do so and we strived to read or talk through everyone’s book. A big thank you to Jaz -Audrey’s mum and artist who came in and did face painting with the children.
This term we have made cookies, cheesy twists and orange juice. The children have measured ingredients, worked together to mix, grate, spread etc and enjoyed tasting the finished product!
The children have been enjoying sewing and threading and have made a variety of items using this skill: bags, puppets, dream catchers, snowflakes and designs on hessian. These are just a few of the experiences the children have been engaged in.
Just a reminder to always pack spare clothes in your Child's bag in case of toileting accident, getting wet in the sand pit, in water play, paint spills etc.
Thanks
