Learning from Hubs
We are embarking on our final project over a biannual scope and sequence. Project 8 is titled, ‘Who Can We Be When We Work Together?’ This Community Project is focused on exploring the concept of interdependence - thinking with others through the Civics and Citizenship curriculum (Yrs. 3-6) & Intercultural capabilities curriculum.
This has already begun in small ways with some of the Three/Four children engaging in dialogue with educators to make suggestions around their play at the soccer pitch during break times, as well as the One and Two Hub children helping to organise their Afternoon Tea. (See below).
Throughout the project, children will also explore the research inquiry process to help support further unpacking. We will also be exploring the learning dispositions of being expressive and open, as well as collaborative.
If you have any suggestions or think you can help support this project in any way, please email Lauren ldavis@sjfootscray.catholic.edu.au
For families of children who will be moving from Year Two to Year Three in 2025. Come and learn more about how the Three/Four Hub works to understand the changes in Discovery, as well as other expectations. Please RSVP via the link https://forms.gle/w23ZfHvmcE9xsuJ67
Please note our intention is to hold this session annually due to community response. Email Lauren ldavis@sjfootscray.catholic.edu.au if you have any further questions.
This term the One and Two Hubs have been busy organising for our One/Two Afternoon tea. Our focus for our One/Two afternoon tea and Community project is to explore the concept of interdependence (connection of a group and working together for the one common goal) and the disposition of collaboration.
To explore this concept we have been building our connections between the two hubs by writing pen pal letters to one another. This has also linked into our Writing focus for the beginning of the term to explore the different ways we use writing to socialise.
To practise our collaboration skills, the children have signed up to different "teams" to help plan and run the event. The teams are:
We are very excited for our One/Two Afternoon tea on 24th of October!
On Monday the 7th of October, the St John’s educators engaged in spiritual and professional development. Led by Fr. Elio, the focus of the day was on the Advent and Christmas season, and we delved into depictions of the Visitation, the Annunciation, and the Nativity. Through a combination of art analysis, discussion, and reflection, we gained a deeper appreciation for the diverse ways in which these sacred events have been interpreted and portrayed throughout history.
The day provided a much-needed opportunity for our staff to connect with their own faith and values. We were reminded of the enduring power of art to inspire, to challenge, and to evoke emotions.
We are grateful to Fr. Elio for his guidance and expertise. His passion for art and his deep understanding of religious symbolism enriched our learning experience. This day of reflection and renewal has left a lasting impression on our staff, and we are excited to share our newfound insights with our children during the advent period.
Baptism Update
Thank you to the families who have expressed an interest in their child (Prep - Grade 3) being baptised by the Holy Family Parish.
Please note that this is run externally by the Parish and is not facilitated by St John’s. For children in Grades 4-6, the Holy Family Parish invites them to attend the EDGE program to prepare for baptism. Please see the dates below.
Please contact Jordan if you have any further questions.
