Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 4! It is lovely to see the children return to school, very excited to be back with friends and eager for the term of learning ahead.
A short newsletter this week.
We have quite a few children away sick to start the term. If your child is unwell please keep them at home. We will give families a call in the event children are unwell at school. It is important that your phone number and emergency contact details are up to date. If you have had a change in contact details recently please give Bek a call in the office.
We will be celebrating Grandparents Days on Thursday 31st October. We look forward to welcoming them to school so they can share all the great things that happen at St John's.
We have a pupil free day coming up on Friday 1st December. St John's staff will be joining with staff from St Joseph's Benalla, FCJ College and St Mary's Mansfield with a focus on Social Justice and Scripture. TheirCare will provide a program for the day for families that may need it.
On the last Thursday of Term 3 the children in Year 5-6 took part in the 'Festival of the Sacred'. This festival has a focus on the performing arts with the children from 4 schools gathering at St Mel's in Shepparton. We were so proud of our students who sang beautifully and of Mr McKernan who was their conductor on the day. Well done!!
After much organisation, some uncertainty and lots of work the portable classroom arrived during the school holidays. It has fitted in very nicely in the space next to the children's toilets. Over the coming weeks Keith will be working to renovate the space ready for our Year 6 classroom in 2025. The space looks better already and has blended in very well to the surrounding area.
A big thank you to Hayley Raglus who successfully applied for a Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant with the school set to receive $4 340 for our ‘Nature's Classroom’ project. This came about after discussing the great learning for pre school children at the Euroa Arboretum and Bush Kinder and then coming to school and it all stopping. The money will be used to liaise with the Arboretum and develop some way of continuing the program for the children once they come to school.
We have Assembly on Friday with a slightly earlier start at 2:30pm. Our Fire Carriers will be presenting this week.
On Friday the whole school will be going to Mass at 12:30 to celebrate the start of the new term and pray that God looks after all of us as we journey through the next 10 and a half weeks and all that the term will bring. Everyone is very welcome to join us in the Church.
Term 4 is going to be another busy term. Teachers begin their professional learning using MultiLit, the new Literature program that will be implemented in all schools in the Diocese of Sandhurst (this is very exciting), we have children receiving the Sacraments of Communion and Confirmation in November, Celebrations of Learning, regional sports, Year 3-4 Camp, Graduation, Carols evening, swimming, Bike Ed, Kaboom Sports, Transition Days and much much more!
Parents are always welcome in classrooms as helpers if you are interested. The only thing required is a current Working with Children Check.
This week we welcome Leyla Burke (Year 6) and her mum Cate back to the St John's community. The family has been in Ballarat for the last few years and are excited to be back in Euroa.
Please keep Ms Katherine King and her family in your prayers after the death of her mum, Heather during the school holidays. Katherine's mum had been ill and passed away peacefully on the 3rd of October.
Have a great first term.
Until next week
Therese
