Year 1 Excursion - Royal Botanic Gardens

This term, in Year One our wellbeing focus is Mindfulness. Students have been learning about different strategies to help them maintain moment by moment awareness and experience a sense of calm, especially during times of heightened emotion.

To complement this learning the Year One students participated in an excursion at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. Students explored the gardens and were encouraged to see themselves as part of the natural world. They considered how being in nature can contribute to positive emotional and physical wellbeing.

Teacher comment:

It was wonderful to see the students practising mindfulness on our excursion. They participated in enriching activities such as; creating art with treasures they found on the garden floor; whistling using snake grass leaves and wandering mindfully through the rainforest; listening, seeing, smelling and hearing nature. Students reflected on how calm they felt whilst engaging with nature and were able to create potpourri with dried lavender and rose to take home as a memento.

Well done Year One students for your curiosity and enthusiasm at the Royal Botanic Gardens.
