Learning Community 2

3/4 Maxine Howard and Nicole Stark

What a wonderful Term 3 we have had in Grade 3/4!

The last three weeks of Term 3 looked a little like this.... enjoy the photos!

We dived into the world of Graphic Novels in Writing, and tried our hand at drafting our own comics! We practiced drawing our characters and setting, and planned out each pannel.

Next week we will be completing our good copies, just in time to take home for some light holiday reading!

We continued our class study of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in Reading, and used our new skills in creating Graphic Novels by summarising the important events in the chapters and highlighting the weird and colourful world of Willy Wonka. As the children in the novel started 'dropping off', we used the songs sung by the Oompa Loompas to create our own limericks about the children's experiences as their tour of the Chocolate Factory came to an end.

Next week, we finish off our study by making our own chocolate bars, then complete a text-to-film study of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, then unpack the differences between films as we watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

In Math, we focussed on Symmetry, finding symmetry in nature, creating symmytry artwork with our names, developing digital pieces, and using oil pastels for symmetrical bugs!

We then moved on to Chance, unpacking what data is, why we collect it, and the many ways to graph it. We conducted a chance experiment to find the answer to: How many different coloured cars will drive past Bunyip Primary School in a 15 minute window? We first predicted our data, guessing which colour cars would drive past and how many, then graphed this prediction. We headed out in the beautiful sunshine to collect our true data, then graphed our findings and compared both sets of graphs, unpacking our discoveries.

Next week, we recap our Term 3 learning in Math with a Fruit Festival Project!

We hope our 3/4 families have a restful upcoming holiday!
