Sports Newsletter 

Well done to all the athletes that competed in Greater Western Athletics Championships last Friday in Ballarat, the results for the Colac Division were the best we have ever had. There were lots of athletes that achieved personal bests on the day. Congratulations to the following Sacred Heart students who will now compete at the State Athletics on Wednesday 6th November at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park.

Alexis Perkins – High Jump (2nd place)

Regan Smart – 200m (1st place), 100m (2nd place), Relay (2nd place)

Nash Charles – Triple Jump (2nd Place)

Phoebe Robb, Sophie Wheadon, Asha McNaughton – Relay (2nd place)

Special mention to 3rd place medallists Ruby Hay – 1500m, Beau Perkins – Triple Jump, Nash Charles – 80m Hurdles. 

A big thank you to Lisa Egan, and Trinity College students Xavier, Austin and Noah for all their hard work on the day.

Thanks to the parents and grandparents who also supported the day.

Basketball. T-20 Cricket & Hot Shots Tennis Trials

Students in Years 5 and 6 have the chance to sign up to trial for the summer sports events of Basketball, T-20 Cricket and Hot Shots Tennis. Sign up sheets are located in the gym on the “Sports Board”. Interested students need to put their name on a sport, or all three if they are interested in trying out for the Sacred Heart teams. 

 

LAPS

Once again we are lucky to have Kelly Costin back from the Little Athletics Program for Schools (LAPS) to educate the students on the many skills that are offered at Little Athletics including running, jumping and throwing. Kelly worked with many of our students last Thursday and will be back again this Thursday 17th October to work with the students.

Colac’s Little Athletics program is on each Saturday at the Colac Central Reserve. Please see more information on the attached flyer on the 'Community' page of the newsletter.

Foundation Swimming Program

The Foundation swimming program will continue each Wednesday. Students are reminded that they need swimming bathers, a towel and goggles (all clearly labelled). Students may wear their sports uniform each Wednesday for the swimming program (please label each item, you would be surprised how many children have the same shoes with the same size etc). 

Swimming times will be as follows:

(FSF) at 11:30am – 12:00pm 

(FME) at 12:00pm – 12:30pm

(FSN) at 12:30pm – 1:00pm 

 

Year 4 Swimming Program

The Year 4 swimming program has two days to go - Wednesday 16th October and Thursday 17th October from 11:30am – 1:00pm. 

Students are reminded that they need swimming bathers, a towel and goggles (all clearly labelled). Students may wear their sports uniform for the swimming program (please label each item).

Students will walk to the Bluewater and back to school (unless it is a ‘wet weather day’). 

Swimming times are as follows:

(4TR) 11:30am – 12:00pm

(4DC)12:00pm – 12:30pm

(4SF)12:30pm – 1:00pm

Thanks to the parents who have offered to walk with the students. 

 

State Lawn Bowls Championships

On Wednesday 30th October, the following students will participate in the State Lawn Bowls Championships at Sunbury Bowling Club (Club Sunbury, 49 Riddell Road, Sunbury) – Nash Charles, Natalie Farquharson, Max Mitchell, Silas Walsh, Bodhi Baker and Dusty McCrimmon. We wish these students all the best.

Information will be sent home via PAM closer to the event.

 

Colac Division Golf Tournament

The new date for the golf tournament is Friday 15th November. 

Information will be sent home via PAM closer to the event.

Sports uniform returns

Could students in Year 5 and 6 that still have a football jumper or lycra netball dress please return them to school a.s.a.p.

Name: Jack Seuren (Yr 6TR)

1. What sports do you play? The sports I play are basketball, football and cricket.

2. Which sport is your favourite to play? My favourite sport to play is basketball.

3. Why is this your favourite sport? Basketball is my favourite sport because it is a very athletic sport.

4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was when I got MVP (Most Valuable Player) in indoor soccer.

5. What are your strengths that help you with sport? My strengths in sport is my speed, I can run fast.

6. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because I am pretty good at most sports and it is fun.

7. Who is your favourite sports person? My favourite sports person is basketballer Jimmy Butler.

8. Why are they your favourite? Jimmy Butler is my favourite player because he has played in the NBA for a very long time and he inspires me.

9. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sports team is the Geelong Cats.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? My coach and team mates would say that I am a small player, but I am fast and try very hard.

4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was when I hit the winning runs in cricket.

5. What are your strengths that help you with sport? My strengths in sport is my speed, I am fast in sport.

6. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because I like being active and I like playing with my mates.

7. Who is your favourite sports person? My favourite sports person is Nick Martin.

8. Why are they your favourite? Nick Martin is my favourite sports player because he is good at football. He is a good midfielder/forward.

9. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sports team is Essendon.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? My coach and team mates would say that I have lots of energy.

1. What sports do you play? The sports I play are netball, basketball, swimming, soccer and tennis.

2. Which sport is your favourite to play? My favourite sport to play is basketball.

3. Why is this your favourite sport? Basketball is my favourite sport because I get to play with my friends and I am good at it.

4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was when I shot the first goal for my basketball team.

5. What are your strengths that help you with sport? My strengths in sport is that I am good at defending and dodging. 

6. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because it is fun and I love playing with my friends.

7. Who is your favourite sports person? My favourite sports person is Sam Kerr.

8. Why are they your favourite? Sam Kerr is my favourite player because she is a great Australian soccer player. 

9. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sports team is the Matilda’s.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? My coach and team mates would say that I am friendly and that I am very encouraging to my team members.

2. Which sport is your favourite to play? My favourite sport to play is tennis.

3. Why is this your favourite sport? Tennis is my favourite sport because it is a fun game to play.

4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was when I won a tennis game and my opponent got no games against me.

5. What are your strengths that help you with sport? My strength in tennis is that I have a very good serve.

6. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because it is fun and sport is very good for you.

7. Who is your favourite sports person? My favourite sports person is Evonne Goolagong-Cawley. She is one of the best female tennis players that Australia has ever had.

8. Why are they your favourite? Evonne Goolagong-Cawley is my favourite player because she worked very hard to be the best tennis player ever, so she is very inspiring.

9. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sports team is the Geelong Cats.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? My coach and team mates would say that I can run very fast, and that I run fast to to get to the tennis ball.
