YEAR 8

Year 8 Key Information

  • I want to congratulate Murray Pastoral Group 8.8, which had only one student absent from their class at the Swimming Carnival. Murray's winning the overall swimming carnival demonstrates how participation in these events is key to success.

  • This term, our pastoral care program will focus on rewarding positive choices. Pastoral mentors will focus on uniform and personal grooming, effective diary use, and locker organization. Students will be awarded house points that meet these essential aspects, which form our St Mary's community and set your child up for success in their learning. Parents/carers can support their children by engaging in positive conversations, supporting their children in effective decision-making, and ultimately providing exemplary learning opportunities.

Whole of College Key Information

  • Monday, October 7, is the King's Birthday Public Holiday. We hope you enjoy this final long weekend for the year, with students returning on Tuesday, October 8.

  • It was beautiful to share in a high tea and celebrate our wonderful grandparents this week at our first assembly for Term 4. We loved hearing from Year 7 student Reid Slatcher, grandparent Mrs Jan O'Donnell and Campus Minister Mrs Helena Tutoe at the event.

  • It was excellent to see so many students return this week, meeting the college expectations regarding uniforms and personal grooming. Thank you, parents/carers, for your continued support in strengthening our community at St Mary's. This is a reminder that further responses may be necessary from the Junior and Senior Secondary Assistant Principals for students who do not meet these expectations.

  • Best of luck to the students representing the college this weekend at the Queensland All Schools Touch Competition. We look forward to hearing about your success.

  • Next week, our pastoral team will host Mental Health Week. This is a fantastic week for students to get involved in various activities that challenge their thinking and provide resources on strengthening their own personal skills to maintain good mental health. Should your child require additional support, we have an excellent team of counsellors at the college. Please reach out to us!

  • We have our final whole college assembly next week before our Year 12s head off to external exams. At this time, we will pass on our best wishes for the Year 12s and look forward to welcoming them back to the Graduation Mass on November 13.
