Baimbridge Cross Country

Laver wins House Cross Country Carnival!

On Monday, we had the Baimbridge Cross Country. The day is a great display of endurance, but it is a good opportunity for us to show case school spirit, and community involvement. This year, it was Laver House who stole the show, taking out top honours and extending their lead in the Champion House competition by a whopping 26 points!

Held at the scenic Bandicoot Enclosure and Pedrina Park, it had a bit of everything to challenge and excite the competitors. From grassy straights of Pedrina Park and dodging Wallabies, to winding paths through the trees at the Bandicoot enclosure.

Well done to the staff laced up their shoes and hit the track too, bringing energy and encouragement that lifted the spirits of all runners. Their participation was some excellent role modelling.

A massive thank you must also go to the parents and supporters, who turned out in numbers to cheer from the sidelines and offer high-fives.

GD Cross Country

On the 12th May Cross County squad travelled across to Casterton for the GD Cross Country.

It was a very sunny and warm day for May, which made it unusually hot for Cross Country conditions.

We had 35 runners travel across, up from the last few years. This is a testament to the application to aerobic fitness of the current student population and their pride in representing the school.

It was pleasing to see the approach the students took to the event on the day, completing a thorough warm up before their race. Well done!

A highlight was Tess coming second in a very quick 13 Year Girls race.

In the combined points we came 5th in a tight contest.

GD Girls Football

7-9 - Our Baimbridge girls put in a huge effort across all their games this week. They went down to Monivae and had a close battle against College and Portland, but they never gave up and played with real heart and determination.

There were some great performances from our stars like Indi, Bella and Scarlett, and it was so encouraging to see our younger girls in Years 7 and 8 having a real crack and showing loads of promise.

A big thanks to all the volunteers, staff, and families who helped out and supported the girls on the day — we couldn’t do it without you.

If you loved school footy, why not keep going and give community footy a try? There are so many opportunities out there for girls to play, learn new skills, make friends, and have fun.

Awesome effort, girls — you did Baimbridge proud!

-Mr Brow

10-12 - The girls' football team delivered a commendable performance at a recent Year 10, 11, and 12 round robin carnival, securing two wins out of five games and demonstrating significant improvement from last year's showing at similar events. Facing off against Good Shepherd, Portland, Bayview, Monivae, and Alexandra College, the team truly "had a crack" in every match, leaving everything on the field against more experienced opposition.

A standout for the team was Layla, a genuine gun with unlimited potential. Her skill and dedication were evident throughout the carnival, and she is undoubtedly a player to watch for the future.

Beyond Layla's individual brilliance, several other girls played exceptionally well and showed immense promise for a future in football. Holly, Hannah, and Lauren consistently displayed talent and determination, and they should strongly consider continuing with the sport.

Perhaps most impressively, the girls should be incredibly proud of their resilience. In all their games at the carnival, the biggest losing margin was just 18 points, a testament to their fighting spirit and unwavering effort. This is particularly notable given the mix of year levels they were competing against.

This round robin competition was a clear step forward for the girls, highlighting their growing skills, teamwork, and passion for the game. Their efforts certainly made for an exciting day of footy.

Soccer

District Soccer

This year, we trialled a more localised soccer event—one of the best outcomes was the chance to play against nearby schools and, in some cases, our own club mates and friends. Held conveniently at Pedrina Park, we competed against teams from Monivae, Portland, and Bayview. All schools were able to field both a Year 7/8 team and a Year 9/10 team.

It was a fast-paced day, with each team playing four games that tested both skills and stamina. Several new players joined us to make up full teams, and we look forward to welcoming them back next year. They picked up new skills and were pleasantly surprised by how fun soccer can be.

Shippy learnt the hard way that you can’t use your hands unless you’re the goalie—but showed great reflexes in goals, saving many throughout the day. Harry T discovered just how enjoyable the sport is, while Zander ran himself ragged trying to keep up with the pace. Our regular Year 7/8 players displayed excellent skill and agility, with some impressive goals scored. Freddy J embraced the captaincy role and demonstrated strong leadership, guiding our less experienced squad to a well-earned 2nd place overall.

The Year 9/10 team, comprising more seasoned players, faced a tough challenge against Monivae. The group showcased outstanding skill and stamina, working cohesively as a team with minimal input from staff—a credit to their maturity and teamwork. Dylan made a successful return following a six-week injury break, Woody was solid in goals, and Ben’s attacking speed resulted in some brilliant goals. Despite their efforts, the Monivae attack proved just a bit too strong at times, leaving us in 2nd place. Unfortunately, Levi suffered a knee injury during the day and was sidelined for a few weeks.

Special thanks go to the Hamilton Soccer Club for their support—particularly President Rod Perry and member Heath Riley—as well as Mr Beattie for the fantastic organisation that went into creating an event which truly showcased our talent on the soccer field.

Wednesday Night Soccer

Wednesday Night Soccer is well underway, with a full term of competition behind us. As frosty evenings settle over Pedrina Park, our talented players are growing stronger and more skilled each week. Baimbridge College has again fielded two teams, alongside two from Monivae and one from Good Shepherd.

Team 2, captained by Woody and Bella  and supported by Ben’s dad, Mark Crawford, is working cohesively despite a few injuries (Dylan and Levi) and the recent addition of new teammate Charlie. Their commitment each week is commendable.

Team 1, led by Freddy, consists of younger, developing players who give 100% every game. Skills and positioning are improving noticeably—highlighted by Issy’s perfectly placed goal last week. While results have been tough against more experienced sides, the team’s persistence and resilience are something to be proud of. We also welcomed Shivan and the Singh family; Shivan has shown impressive speed and growing confidence on the field.

As we break for the school holidays, we look forward to welcoming Mr Partap as coach in Term 3. His coaching experience in Fiji and international competition promises to bring valuable expertise to both teams.

A heartfelt thank you to all the families who continue to support our players each chilly Wednesday night. See you next term!

GD Boys Football

7/8 - It was a pleasure to take our Yr 7 & 8 football teams to Pedrina park for some high quality games of AFL football this term. There were some stand out players including Meihana Marsh, Vinny Cameron, Zanda Ewing, Zeke Both and Brennan Macdonald. The highlight of the day however was the teamwork, positive support and comradery displayed by all of the players throughout the four games. We lost our first game to Monivae College despite leading with only 3 minutes to go and then had victories against Portland Secondary, Portland Bayview College, and the Good Shepherd all starts team. Special thanks to our volunteer boundary umpires and goal umpires who braved cold conditions to ensure the games went ahead. Cannot wait for next year as our younger boys who had the experience this year will be bigger and better for the run and are a pleasure to coach.

-Mr Price

9/10 - It was a big day of footy for our Year 9 & 10 boys team, playing five games with plenty of highs, lows, and learning moments.

The day got off to a tough start, going down 0–57 in the opening game against Monivae. The boys were caught off guard and weren’t quite ready for the intensity, Leegan Hura and Isaac tried hard however didn’t have too many allies. To their credit, the team responded brilliantly in the next match. Darcy provided much of the midfield drive that set up many attacking moves. Against the All Stars, the team bounced back with renewed energy and structure, securing an impressive 43–7 win.

Game three brought a surprise challenge from Bayview, who came out hard and took control early. Despite our efforts, we went down 17–48. Angus showed flashes of dominance, however we just couldn’t find our groove. Determined to reset, the boys produced a dominant performance in game four, beating Portland Secondary College 29–0 with strong teamwork and clean ball movement.

Our final game was a tough contest against THAAC. We really found our run with Oscar, Archie providing options over the ground and Leo working hard in the ruck. Scores were level at half-time in a physical, back-and-forth battle, but Toffs managed to kick away late, handing us a 25–47 loss.

A huge thank you to our central umpire, Anthony Ractliffe. Without him volunteering, the day wouldn’t have been possible. Zander D was again our Goal Umpire and very professional. A huge thank again to our Boundary Umpires; Brennan, Zac Y, Zac K, Jade and Ellora for their time and effort throughout the day.

-Mr Beattie

11/12 - The Year 11 & 12 boys faced a challenging day on the footy field, coming up against some strong opposition across their three games.

The opening match ended in an 8–27 loss against Monivae. Isaac and Mitch provided some great contests. Ethan toiled in the ruck, providing our onballers with some good opportunities. Despite some promising early chances, we struggled to maintain control of the play and couldn’t convert opportunities into scoreboard pressure.

In game two, we came up against Portland Secondary, whose tall players proved difficult to match. Tamati showed some dash, while Archie was a consistent performer. With a few of our boys pulling on the boots for the very first time, notably Lorenzo having a very enriching experience as an Italian exchange student. Having said that they gave it their best shot. We went down 1–18 in a tough contest.

The final match against THAAC highlighted our lack of fitness, as they outran us from the very first bounce. Despite our efforts to keep up, they dominated the play and we suffered a 0–60 loss.

A big thank you to our central umpire, boundary umpires, and goal umpire for their support throughout the day. While the results didn’t go our way, there were moments of promise and plenty of lessons learned. Well done to the boys for representing the school with effort and resilience.

-Mr Beattie

GD Basketball

Our A team played 6 games in a row, and achieved two wins, our B team also achieved a win. Students played with competitive spirit and displayed excellent sportsmanship to all teams involved.
