Grade 5 & 6 Transition Days

Transition/tranˈzɪʃn,trɑːnˈzɪʃn/
noun
- the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another."students in transition from one programme to another"
We recently hosted students from Grade 5 and 6 surrounding Primary Schools on their Transition Days. The process of Transiton is often stressful for kids and that's what Transition Days are all about, alleviating that stress by familiarity and having the shared experience. We were SO impressed with the visiting students and hope to see a lot of them come back to be part of the Baimbridge community.
Transition to Year 7 at Baimbridge College
Helping every child feel ready, step by step.
Grade 5 & 6 Transition Day – Everyone’s Welcome
This day is all about getting a feel for what high school is like. For some students, it might be their first time on a school bus. For others, it’s their first time walking into a big new school. Everyone feels a little out of their comfort zone—and that’s completely normal.
Students spend the day meeting teachers, trying out different subjects, exploring the school, and even visiting the canteen. It's a fun and safe way to begin the high school journey.
Grade 6 Transition Day – Everyone’s Welcome This day builds on what they’ve learned in Grade 5. Students get a bit more responsibility—with longer classes and a chance to understand how learning works at high school. They’ll hear more about what’s expected of them and get a clearer picture of what Year 7 will be like.
Grade 6 Orientation Day – For Enrolled Baimbridge Students Only
This day is all about getting ready for Day 1 next year. Students find out their class groups, locker number, and meet their Year 7 teachers. The school is just for them on this day—it’s quiet, relaxed, and a great way to settle nerves and get familiar with where everything is.
Extra Transition Sessions – For Students Who Need a Bit More Time
Some students need a few extra visits—and that’s okay. We run a minimum of three smaller transition sessions where students can build confidence slowly:
Session 1: Practice getting to school, meet teachers, and have recess.
Session 2: Come for recess, stay for two classes, and have lunch.
Session 3: Arrive at lunchtime and practice getting home.
These sessions are small, quiet, and really help students get used to the school. Many friendships form in these groups, which makes the first day of Year 7 feel a little easier.
Year 7 Induction Program – The First Two Weeks of High School
We don’t throw our Year 7s into full classes straight away. For the first two weeks, they learn all the basics—how to read their timetable, use their lockers, organise books and gear, and feel comfortable moving around the school.
The program includes our Year 7 Camp, where students build friendships, gain confidence, and have fun outside the classroom. If your child feels unsure about camp, that’s okay—our team has lots of experience supporting students with worries. We can work with you to arrange a modified plan if needed. Just reach out to Mrs Sam Adams, our Year 7 & 8 Coordinator.
