Science Update

Year 7 – Exploring the Forces Around Us

Our budding scientists in Year 7 have been exploring how forces shape the world around them. From gravity to friction, students have tested, measured, and discussed how different forces impact movement, speed, and stability.

Highlights include creative experiments with ramps, parachutes, and rockets – all in the name of scientific inquiry!

Year 8 – The Human Body Up Close

Year 8 students have taken a deep dive into the body systems that keep us alive and moving. The highlight of this unit was undoubtedly the heart dissection, where students got a firsthand look at the structure and function of this vital organ. Engaged, curious, and respectfully fascinated, students came away with a clearer understanding of how our bodies work.

Year 9 – Wired for Knowledge

This term, Year 9 have been experimenting with electricity. They’ve built circuits, tested conductors, and delved into the principles of current, voltage, and resistance. The unit has been full of bright ideas (and some very literal lightbulb moments) as students brought theoretical knowledge to life through practical activities.

Year 10 – Reactions in Action

Year 10 students have taken the lead as young researchers, planning and conducting their own investigations into the rates of chemical reactions. Working in teams, they’ve developed hypotheses, tested variables, and collected data – developing not just scientific knowledge, but critical thinking and collaboration skills too.

Hydrogen Car GP Update – Gearing Up for the Race

Two enthusiastic student teams are currently preparing for the upcoming Hydrogen Car Grand Prix in July.

They’ve been attending practice sessions, fine-tuning their vehicles, and learning about clean energy technologies. It’s fantastic to see their dedication and teamwork in action as they represent our school in this exciting STEM challenge.
