Health and Physical Education News

In recent weeks our staff here at school have been promoting a balanced and active lifestyle by staying actively involved in some special sports events.

Our staff netball team have been twice victorious in the lunchtime competition and have shown a level of skill and fitness that has genuinely surprised some students.

The age of staff involved covers over 5 decades, proving that active involvement in sports can be a lifelong pursuit.  Credit and thanks to Miss Marsal and Miss Tilley for organizing this competition which has captured the attention of the whole school.

A large number of staff also stayed back after work on a recent Friday and enjoyed participating in a fun pickleball event.

As previously mentioned in the newsletter, we have invested in a range of new sports equipment, including pickleball nets, balls and racquets, and staff were excited to try out the exciting new sport of pickleball.

As the above, accompanying photos show, lots of fun was had. Teachers and staff from all areas of the school joined in, and keen observers were impressed with the level of skill shown by all.

Some chose to have a friendly non-competitive hit, while others organized highly competitive games.

After the event the PE staff unanimously decided that the Champion Staff Pickleball Player was Mrs Duncan, and she was presented with a trophy that now takes pride of place on her desk.

In addition to this we regularly see many staff members spending recesses and lunchtime playing fun sports games like soccer and volleyball with groups of students.

We commend our staff for being so active, and trust that students enjoy seeing their respected elders so active. We believe that this also leads to maximized student positivity in PE classes and also an increased student involvement in sport at recesses and lunchtimes.

Sporting Teams Represent the College with Pride

Recently, the Senior Girls Netball team proudly represented Scoresby Secondary College at the interschool competition held at the Knox Regional Netball Centre.

From the first whistle to the end of their final game, the girls brought energy and determination to every match.

They faced some tough competition but remained focused and gave their all throughout the day.  Their perseverance and teamwork paid off, earning them a well-deserved place in the semi-finals against Upwey.

Although the outcome wasn’t in their favour, the team never lost their drive and continued to demonstrate fantastic sportsmanship and resilience.

The day was full of valuable experience, growth, and proud moments. The girls should feel incredibly proud of how they played and represented their school.

Their positive attitude, encouragement of one another, and team spirit were a true credit to the Scoresby Secondary College community.

Well done, girls – you competed with heart and upheld our school’s values every step of the way!

We are also excited to share that three of our students have qualified for the next round of the Eastern Metropolitan Region (ERM) Cross Country, a fantastic achievement!
