Juniors Wildlife Park Excursion

On Thursday May 1st , the Foundation, Grade One, and Grade Two students visited the Ballarat Wildlife Park. We were lucky to have perfect weather for exploring the park and discovering interesting facts about a wide range of animals. This exciting excursion marked the beginning of our Biological Science Unit. Students listened to informative keeper talks, observed animals in their naturalistic habitats, and learned about the different features that help these animals survive and thrive.

Highlights of the day included watching koalas snoozing in eucalyptus trees, spotting tigers lounging on the rooftops of their huts, and seeing meerkats dart cheekily in and out of the bushes. We were also fascinated by crocodiles sitting lazily in the water and on rocks. We delighted in the cute antics of the penguins and the opportunity to feed many kangaroos. Many students loved the chance to pat a turtle and lizard.

Back at school, we are now continuing to build upon our knowledge by exploring animals and their habitats through a variety of investigations and activities.

It was a wonderful way to spark curiosity and excitement for learning in the Biological Sciences.

Indonesian

Indonesian Language Learning Ambassador (ILLA) program comes to

St Patrick’s!

This semester, St Pat’s has participated in an Australian Government funded program called ILLA (Indonesian Language Learning Ambassadors).

The ILLA program provides Australian Government-funded scholars from Indonesia with an opportunity to directly engage with Australian schools – teachers  and students – and learn first-hand about Australian culture, community, and classroom teaching practices. It also enables Ambassadors to share their skills and knowledge of the Indonesian language, culture, and customs and establish local Australian community connections.

Senior students have increased their knowledge, cultural perspective and enthusiasm about Indonesia through enriching activities with Ambassador Benna, in our Indonesian and Music classrooms. They were fortunate enough to be shown how to play a traditional Indonesian instrument, the Angklung.

We have a photo of a senior class added to the ILLA article in the Australia Awards in Indonesia website!

My Favourite Place at School

Media Arts with Juniors.

Our junior students have been exploring ways to combine media to share information.

They have been working on creating a short video about their favourite place at school by combining photos, text and audio. We will be sharing more of our videos during this term.
