Year 5 Log Cabin Camp

Our Year 5 students had a fantastic time on camp at Log Cabin Camp and Sovereign Hill. A huge thank you to our wonderful staff who supported the students and helped create such a memorable experience. Our students has a wonderful time as well fostering many skills such as resilience, independence and courage, especially with many of the adventure activities. Well done to you all.

Container Deposit Scheme

Just a friendly reminder that our school is a donation partner of the Container Deposit Scheme. This is a great initiative that not only helps the environment but also supports our school community. Through this program, you can return eligible bottles and cans for a 10c refund, or choose to donate your refund directly to our school. So far, we've received over $300 in donations, and we're incredibly grateful for the support! We encourage all our families to keep us in mind when recycling. Every donation makes a difference and helps us contribute to a more sustainable planet while raising funds environmenschool projects and activities.

Here's how you can get involved:

Step 1: Collect Containers

Gather your empty, eligible containers. These typically include drink containers such as cans, bottles, and cartons that are 1L in size or smaller.

Step 2: Find a CDS Depot

Locate a nearby collection depot participating in the Container Deposit Scheme. You can easily find these depots by visiting the official website - see link below. There is a depot on Wellington Road near Springvale Road not far from WHPS.

Step 3: Create an Account

To ensure your donations go directly to our school, you'll need to create an account on the Container Deposit Scheme's platform. For our area you will need to download the app for CDS Vic East. Follow the simple registration process on their website or app - you can also get help from staff at a depot.

Step 4: Drop Off Your Containers

Take your collected containers to a depot. The friendly staff there will assist you in depositing your recyclables and generate funds (10c for every eligible container).

Step 5: Choose Wheelers Hill Primary School as Your Preferred Recipient

Once your account is set up, look for the option to choose a preferred recipient or organisation. Search for Wheelers Hill Primary School and select it as your designated beneficiary. Every container counts for a healthier environment, and every contribution makes a difference in supporting our school. Thank you for your ongoing support, and let's make a positive impact for our school and the environment.

Welcome Cheryl

You may have noticed a new face around the school. Please join us in welcoming Cheryl Mace, who has recently joined the team at WHPS. Cheryl will be working in the school office every day and is already settling in wonderfully.

If you're visiting the office, be sure to say hello and make her feel at home. We’re delighted to have Cheryl with us.

Prep Enrolment for 2026

Prep enrolment for 2026 is now open. Information, including how to access the digital VicStudents portal to submit your application can be found via the school website:

https://www.wheelershillps.vic.edu.au/enrolments-2

Thank you to the parents who have already indicated via Compass that a sibling will be attending next year. If you haven’t done so yet, please remember that you still need to submit an application through the portal above. As per the Department of Education’s enrolment and placement policy, siblings of current students are guaranteed a Prep place—but an application form is still required to secure the enrolment.

Uniform Reminder

As the weather cools down, I remind families to ensure students attend school in the correct school uniform. We have noticed an increase in non-uniform items such as blue jackets or jumpers without the school logo, black pants or leggings, and pants with patterns or non-uniform colours.

School-approved uniform items can be purchased from PSW (located behind Officeworks on Springvale Road). We also regularly hold second-hand uniform sales at school.

Visit PSW Uniform Shop for WHPS

We will also be holding a second hand uniform sale in the staff room on Wednesday 28th May from 2:30pm.

Assemblies – Term 2

Our Friday assemblies will continue to be led by student leaders and held via Webex at 2:00pm.

Join Assembly via Webex

During assembly, we celebrate Student of the Week awards, share sustainability updates, and acknowledge student achievements. Weather permitting, our end-of-term assembly will be held outside on the oval.

Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) – Years 4 to 6

Students in Years 4–6 will complete the survey between 27th May and 13th June. More information about the survey is attached below, including an option to opt out.
