Brentwood Green Team's Term 1 Highlights -
Making a Difference, One Action at a Time
The Brentwood Green Team has had an exciting and impactful start to the year, with a series of events and initiatives that highlight their dedication to environmental sustainability.
School Sustainability Forum: Building Partnerships for a Greener Future
Starting the year with a bang.
The Green Team hosted the School Sustainability Forum, where students from Brentwood, Wellington Secondary College, and Mount Waverley Secondary College gathered to discuss sustainability initiatives.
Experts from Monash Tech School and Monash City Council shared valuable insights, and the event served as a steppingstone for creating the first Sustainable Schools Committee for secondary schools.
The forum encouraged students to explore projects aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Resource Smart Schools program. It was an inspiring event that fostered collaboration and set the stage for a new tri-partnership aimed at improving environmental policies in schools and the City of Monash.
Annual BBQ at the Athletics Event: Raising Funds for Sustainability
Secondly, the Green Team also played a vital role in fundraising at the annual athletics event. Thanks to their hard work, they raised an impressive $2,456 from the sale of drinks and sausages.
Clean Australia Day: A Campus Cleanup Success
Thirdly, the Green Team participated in the annual Clean Australia Day.
A group of 18 eco-warriors dedicated their class time to pick up rubbish around the school, filling a whopping 15 bags with trash. Their efforts not only helped clean up the school but also contributed to the team’s vision of transforming the Green Space into a flourishing garden. Additionally, the team made an important update to the recycling station, moving it to a more accessible location near the photocopy machine area and setting up a can and bottle collection point and having more bins around the school.
Green Team Monitors in Term 2
Looking ahead, the Green Team is gearing up to introduce Green Team monitors in Term 2. These monitors will be tasked with keeping specific areas tidy, serving as unsung heroes of the school, ensuring the environment stays clean and sustainable. New signs will be displayed throughout the school to provide students with valuable information and raise awareness about becoming more environmentally conscious and responsible. The Green Team will be conducting a school sustainability audit, collaborating with Resource Smart Schools. The goal is to discuss and maintain the school’s impressive 5-star efficiency rating, ensuring our school continues to meet the highest environmental standards. Additionally, the team will focus on the annual tree planting day at Scotchman Creek and around the school. This is a chance for students to get hands-on with sustainability efforts and contribute to improving the local environment.
If you’re passionate about changing the world and making a difference, now’s the perfect time to join the Green Team.
We meet every Friday lunchtime in M04.
Together, we can work toward a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.
