Japanese News

Konnichiwa.

Monday is the 5th of May and a very significant day in Japan. It is a day to celebrate children and to wish them good health and happiness. This day is called Children’s Day or Kodomo no hi. Next week, children will learn about the significance of this day.

In 1/2 Japanese, we have leaders. These students have shown our school values and help out in the classroom.

Our leaders for this term are:

1/2E - Braxton, Quinn and Archer

1/2G - Arya, Riley and Luca

1/2L - Allira, Chadwick and Crawford

1/2M - Aston, Scarlett and Theo

1/2S - Jack, Annie and Lewis

As the 5/6’s start the Hiragana Karate Belt program, the 3/4’s have just finished. I continue to be impressed with the level of engagement and enthusiasm shown by the students.

To achieve the Green Belt, students are required to write and recognise all 46 of the hiragana characters. This takes a lot of practice, concentration and hard work.

Congratulations to the following students for achieving the Green Belt.

3/4N - Vaida, Lily, Caleb, Kai, Chloe

3/4E - Duke, Milla N, Charlie, Kimori, Toby, Amelia.

3/4D - Felix, Chase, Archie, Elijah, Harry.

3/4C - Cooper, Cruz, Johanna, Lachie.

Once students can recognise the whole alphabet, the next challenge is to learn combination sounds and blended sounds. There are 5 more belts after the Green Belt. The final belt is the Black Belt. This covers every possible combination of hiragana.

Two students in 3/4 have achieved the Black Belt. A huge congratulations goes to Dominic in 3/4E and Daisy in 3/4C.  Their determination and hard work has paid off.

Congratulations.
