Acting With Courage
Welcome to Term Two! We are excited to embark on another term of learning, growth, and discovery. This term, we will build on our exploration of learner agency and the High Impact Learner Agency Traits (HILATs), supporting students in developing the confidence and skills they need to thrive. We can’t wait to see the incredible progress they make!
We are committed to developing High Impact Learner Agency Traits (HILATs) to support learner agency and empower students in their education. These traits help students take ownership of their learning, build resilience, and develop essential life skills. Last term, we began to explore acting with courage as a fundamental trait that enables students to grow and thrive.
As we continue this journey, our students recognise that acting with courage is more than just bravery, it is an essential part of everyone's learning experience. Courage means staying positive, embracing challenges, and adapting to ever changing circumstances. It encourages students to stay curious about the world and explore their potential without preconceived limits.
When students act with courage, they persist even when faced with challenges. Whether it’s tackling a tricky math problem, standing up for a friend, or trying something new, courage helps students navigate difficulties with resilience. Learners who embrace vulnerability and understand that falling and getting up again is part of the journey develop a strong foundation for success.
Acting with courage empowers students to pursue goals despite uncertainty or adversity. It opens doors to new learning and personal growth, encouraging young learners to explore diverse perspectives and embrace new opportunities. Courageous learners are not afraid to ask questions, think critically, and seek answers beyond what is familiar.
At home, you can help foster this trait by encouraging your child to take on new challenges, praising their efforts rather than just outcomes, and reminding them that mistakes are stepping stones to success. When children understand that courage leads to personal growth and positive change, they become more confident in their abilities and more engaged in their learning.
We will continue to unpack our HILATS with you over the coming months.
