Fire Safety
The Prep classes have recently undertaken a Fire Safety Program, led by Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). Firefighters from the Windsor station visited the classrooms to provide students with important home fire safety information, as part of FRV’s commitment to making our community more fire safe.
The firefighters left the students with a homework task that asked them to map out a safe meeting place in case of a fire in their family home.
Georgia, Prep LM: We learned fire safety! If there is a fire, we need to 'Duck down low and go, go, go!' You also have a safe meeting place and call 000.
George, Prep LM: The firefighters showed us what a smoke alarm sounds like. It was very loud! One of them also showed us all of the special clothes. There was a jacket, boots, helmet, gloves, and a breathing mask.
During the second visit, the children were lucky enough to have a hands-on learning experience, with time spent learning about different fire safety equipment, seeing a firetruck close-up, and having a turn to spray a fire hose!
Read below to hear from the students themselves about this invaluable learning experience.
Piper, Prep PN: A fire truck came to school and we sprayed the hose. The water was strong and turned into a shield! It was fun!
Felix, Prep PN: I was in the sandpit at recess and the firetruck came! Everyone was excited. We looked inside the firetruck to see all of the gadgets.
