Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of St Brendan’s,
Welcome to Term Two! It is a strange feeling to be writing the first newsletter of the term in Week Four. Due to our wonderful newsletter producer, Mrs Louise Street enjoying a European holiday, we delayed our first newsletter until her return. We are pleased to welcome Louise back to St Brendan’s and have enjoyed hearing about her amazing trip.
We were saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis who led the worldwide Catholic community with kindness, compassion, generosity and a well documented belief in the dignity of all people and the sacredness of our common home, the Earth.
We learned of the outcome of the Conclave early last Friday morning. It was announced to the world that Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected and took the name LeoXIV. We pray for our new pope that he will be a spirit filled and visionary leader who will lead the Catholic community through the challenging times ahead.
It was a pleasure to gather with all our students, many parents, grandparents, friends and parishioners to celebrate both the glorious resurrection of Jesus and the amazing service and sacrifice of our Anzacs. The combination of these two significant events was beautifully merged by our Year 1/2 team. Our school leaders, Ellie and Archie and our Year 1/2 students, guided us through a very sacred and moving prayer service. Thank you for joining us for this significant moment of reflection and thanksgiving.
Please contact our school office, if you have a child who will start school at St Brendan’s in 2027. It is really important that we have the names of all siblings who will commence in that year. This will help to decide how many new enrolments we can take. Please phone the school office on 59777277 or email stbs.catholic.edu.au
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Thank you to all parents who sent their children to school looking absolutely resplendent in their school uniforms for our 2025 school photos. The children were cooperative, polite and respectful. I was extremely proud of them as they arrived for their photos. The photographers were keen to tell me at the end of the day that it was an absolute pleasure to work at St Brendan’s.
This special workshop marked the start of the preparation for our students who will receive the First Communion (Eucharist) this term. It was a beautiful evening where students, teachers and parents gathered together to learn more about the Sacrament of Eucharist. Thank you to the Year 3/4 team and Emma Chapple for leading this special event.
This event was held at St Brendan’s on Thursday May 1. A huge thank you to the many parents who came to school to help or to support our students. Congratulations to our P.E teacher, Tallulah Peacock for organisation and leadership on this special afternoon.
On the first day of the new term, we were delighted to welcome two new families to our school.
We welcomed Marco P, Year 1/2T and his family. We also welcomed Hudson S, Year3/4C and Leo S, Year 1/2HR and their family. We hope that all of our community will make these families welcome and that they very soon feel settled and at home at St Brendan’s.
Last Thursday morning, St Brendan’s was filled with mums, grandmas, aunties and special women who came together to have breakfast with their children. Thank you to the wonderful St Brendan’s staff who prepared and served breakfast to so many happy women and even more hungry and excited children! It was my great disappointment that I was required to attend an important forum in East Melbourne and couldn’t join you for the day.
Many thanks to Natalia Pigeon and her team of helpers who set up the Mother’s Day stall so that our students could purchase something special to give their mums on Sunday. Your generosity and kindness are greatly appreciated and yet another example of the wonderful community we have at St Brendan’s.
Finally the day was capped off with the most beautiful Mother’s Day Mass. Thank you to Father Shymon, our talented Foundation teachers Belinda Coggin and Camille Rossouw and their gorgeous Foundation students who prepared the liturgy. My thanks also go to Emma Chapple, our R.E leader and musician extraordinaire who led the choir and the congregation in celebrating the special women in our lives.
Have a great week.
Warmest regards,
Sue Carr
