Learning Highlights

Welcome to NFL at MacKillop!

Our first ever NFL Flag team competed in the Tasmanian Championships for the chance to travel to Queensland to compete at Nationals.

After an impressive display of skill the MacKillop team made it all the way to the Grand Final before being crowned 2nd place. A big thank you to Mr Lucas Peters for his efforts in leading the team and well done to all students involved for their excellent sportsmanship and representing MacKillop with pride.

Exploring future pathways at MacKillop!

This week our Year 10 students had the exciting opportunity to undertake a week of either work placement or transition week activities as they move into Year 11 and 12 at MacKillop.

Students had the opportunity to learn how to dress for an interview, the best resume writing strategies and even create a vision board to imagine their dream career. Students even enjoyed a BBQ cooked by our Cookery Cert II class.

While on work placement, students learnt from industry professionals at workplaces including Ninja Stadium, Woolworths, Dean Winter MP's office, SDR Plumbing, Helicopter Resources and more. Take a look at the fun they got up to!

We look forward to hearing more about the exciting opportunities students have on placement as the second group Year 10 students begins their learning offsite next week.

A big thank you to our Careers and Pathway Planning Adviser, Miss Sarah Gurney, for her efforts in making this week such a success.

What a beautiful morning for sailing!

Our Year 11/12 Outdoor Education class enjoyed the exciting opportunity to try their hand at sailing, thanks to the support of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania.

ANZAC Day

It was an honour to see our staff, students and families come together to take part in the ANZAC day ceremony at Lindisfarne yesterday.

We remember the brave men and women who served our country. Lest we forget.

HaSS Learning in Year 8

This week all Year 8 classes will travel to the Tasman Peninsula for their HaSS excursion. In class, students have been studying different types of landscapes and landforms and learning about how these are formed through geological processes such as erosion. Students travelled to the Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen, the Blowhole and the Tessellated Pavement. Taking photos of the landforms and completing field sketches at each site.

Trish Hodge from nita education spoke with each group about the First Nation’s Peoples connection to this space. Students learnt about traditional bush tucker and medicines as Trish brought down her possum blanket to show the students.

This was a great opportunity for students to get out in nature and learn geographical skills.

Senior Visual Arts

Senior Visual Art students from MacKillop were treated to a quick excursion into the city to view the 2024 ArtRage exhibition at the Salamanca Arts Centre.

This annual exhibition displays selected exemplary works by the 2024 cohort of Visual Art 3 and Studio Practice 3 students from around the State. It presents as a wonderful opportunity for students to see up close, the many ideas explored by their peers and the forms, techniques and processes they develop to resolve them. This year the quality did not disappoint and it was fantastic to have two MacKillop students from last year have their work proudly on display.

Creating Robots in Year 8 Dig Tech

Our Year 8 Digital Technologies class have been busy learning how to use Lego SPIKE Prime Robots to createhands-on investigations of STEM concepts, in a fun and engaging way.

Programming their robots as they build them from the ground up and tailor them to suit their desires.
