Administering Medication at School

Medication Update - Administration of Medication Procedures from MACS

MACS have recently updated the management of the administration of medication at all schools. If your child needs to take medication during school hours, an updated Medication Authority Form needs to be completed annually or when any changes occur. Medication cannot be administered at school without written advice via a Medication Authority Form and is required for all medications both prescription AND over-the-counter.

The Medication Authority Form must be signed by parent/guardian and by the medical practitioner.  This applies to all students requiring medication to be administered  throughout the school day or during school activities.

Students with Anaphylaxis are required to have an Individual Anaphylaxis Management Plan (IAMP), completed by school staff, and an ASCIA  Plan completed by a doctor.

Medical Authority Form - Information required:

  • signed by registered medical authority
  • signed by parent
  • medication must be provided to school in its original packaging
  • medication must include name of student
  • medication expiry date must be visible
  • medication storage instructions included
  • medication administration instructions listed on packaging

Families with students who have medication including Ventolin at school have received an email with the Medication Authority Form attached. This is to be completed and signed by a registered medical practitioner.

Thank you for your support on this important matter to keep all our students safe.
