Marist-Sion College Christmas Giving Tree
Christmas is upon us and a beautiful expression of bringing dignity to our community has been represented underneath our Marist-Sion Christmas Giving Tree.
Our combined efforts meant that food and gift donations were picked up by the teams at Vinnies Warragul and Drouin, in addition to gift cards from Kmart and Aldi so families can select their own gifts. To top it all off we were also able to donate nearly $1000 to each of the Vinnies chapters so they can provide for local families.
This year has been a year of generosity from our community with the following amounts donated to Catholic and local charities:
- $1,000 Santa Teresa (Ltyentye Apurte) Community
- $1,000 to Opening the Doors Foundation
- $1,000 to Catholic Mission
- $500 to Frankies Kitchen
- $4,374.29 to Caritas
In addition to our donations to Vinnies with our Vinnies Winter Sleepout, Tinnies for Vinnies and the Christmas Giving Tree.
Our 2026 Mission Captains are already planning to outdo these efforts next year and I have no doubt they will enjoy the work as much as they will enjoy the giving!
Advent Liturgy
On the final day of school some brave and talented young people performed a beautiful Advent Liturgy “From Light to Life”. Incorporating the themes of Creation from Genesis and the Gospel of John to the Nativity as written by both Luke and Matthew.
What does this mean? It means that we recognise the omnipresence of God through the same light that occurred in the God’s first words “Let there be light” to Jesus the Light of the World and the light shared amongst all people. It is the light we see at every sunrise, the light that we share when we make each other laugh, when we love and support each other.
I would like to thank everyone for their support during my time at Marist-Sion College as I take on the position of Deputy Principal Faith and Strategy at Whitefriars College Donvale in 2026. The three years I have spent in the Marist-Sion community has brought a lot of light and joy to my life.
Merry Christmas everyone, may you have a safe and happy holiday season and a successful 2026.
Mrs Jacinta Johnston
