Library News

What an exciting year we have had in the library this year; full of lots of activities, interesting discussions about books and authors and many fiercely contested Uno games.
From the Premier’s Reading Challenge and our excursion to the State Library to our Multicultural celebration, the library has been a safe, inclusive, and exciting place for many students. As we finish up 2025 and head into the new year, we would love to reflect on some of these events. We can’t go past the 50th anniversary celebrations throughout the year, from February to December we have had a wonderful collection of memorabilia, photos and presentations from the past 50 years on display in the library. Students and staff have enjoyed the wonderful work of Mrs. Donna Davidson in collating and displaying these historical items throughout the year. Thanks Donna, for your diligence and care in ensuring there was something for everyone represented.
Wonderful displays in the library – Halloween, Book week and of course – beautiful Christmas display
The other displays in the library have been created by Mrs Erin Gaze, based on upcoming events, curriculum topics, class novels, and celebrations. Examples of the wonderful displays are below. Thanks Erin, for your creativity and attention to detail with the displays.
Japanese Club and Japanese Conversation Club
Every week we have a steady stream of students heading into the HUM4 room for their dose of Japanese Culture and Conversation. Ariene Start leads Japan Club every Monday and students are treated to a wave of Japanese Cultural activities – from Anime, Sumo Wrestling, Kimonos and traditional tea ceremonies. On Tuesday students can converse in Japanese with Aya Sensei with a range of presentations, topics and activities. Students even had an opportunity to try Japanese calligraphy in the art rooms!
The students bring their lunch, rush into the classroom, and are always disappointed when the bell rings to end the session. Thanks to Ariene and Ayano Pankhurst for your support and inventive ways to inspire the students in Japanese culture and language.
Plans for 2026
Throughout the year we have encouraged and welcomed students to offer suggestions and ideas for the library. This has been through the book requests (both fiction and non-fiction), and ideas for the layout of the furniture in the library.
We have new student leadership positions for 2026, after an application, interview, and selection process. We are proud to announce the following appointments for the new year as student leaders in the library. The Library Monitors will be assisting at lunchtime with the borrowing, returning and other library desk duties. The Library Ambassadors will be leading the student book club, assisting with Library Lessons and promoting literacy amongst the student body. Congratulations to the following students on their appointments.
