Wellbeing News

The start of the new school year sees the recommencement of our MCC Games Group. Already a popular lunchtime activity, there are a cross section of students who have been attending and participating in a range of activities.

Old favourites such as chess, cards, UNO, checkers, dominos are available and some new games have been included. There is a fantastic Lego station available and as we settle into the new term, I hope to introduce some theme-based challenges for our very creative students.

There are also opportunities for quieter activities such as reading or listening to music in addition to mindfulness activities. We will continue to increase the range of activities based on recommendations, suggestions and available resources.

All are welcome however there is a level of expected behaviour which is based on courtesy and consideration to others. Students are encouraged to have their lunch first as this is vital so they can refuel their body and mind before returning to the learning environment.

We have had several students present on their own and they are made to feel welcome and introduced to others. The goal of the group is to foster and promote inclusion, increase networks and social skills and create a sense of belonging. If you would like further information or support for your child to attend, please do not hesitate to contact their home room teacher, pastoral leader or myself directly.

Term 1 also means that we have a new “MCC Wellbeing Team”. At the end of 2025 students in year 10 were encouraged to complete an expression of interest and we have had 21 students rise to the challenge. The response and the ideas for initiatives they have provided are extremely exciting and I look forward to working with the group to help foster their enthusiasm and turn their goals into reality.

There will be a range of activities each term that are part of national campaigns as well ideas that are relevant, significant or meaningful to the group.

We will have our first meeting for the year next week and I look forward to sharing our plans for the term in the next edition of the newsletter.

The end of 2025, and indeed the beginning of 2026 has been extremely difficult for not only our local community but also for many on a national level. Acts of violence and natural disasters have continually been portrayed through the news and social media. There has been extensive coverage of the events that have occurred and studies prove that this can weigh heavily on our wellbeing, and particularly that of our children.

In a world that can always use more compassion, “Random Acts of Kindness Day” is a meaningful reminder of how small actions can make a big difference. In 2026, “Random Acts of Kindness Day” is celebrated on February 17, inviting people everywhere to spread kindness through simple, unexpected gestures. A smile, an act of courtesy, a kind word can be the significant turning point for many. Harold Kushner once said, "When you are kind to others, it not only changes you, it changes the world". ….that sounds good to me 😊
