Welcome to all VCE VM students and families for the 2026 school year!

We are pleased to report that the year is off to a very positive start. Students have returned focused, engaged and working well in their classes. It has been wonderful to see such a strong commitment to learning so early in the year.

A reminder that the VM Office staff, Student Advocates and our Welfare Team are all here to support students and families throughout the year. Please reach out if assistance is ever needed.

Attendance Expectations

Regular attendance is essential for success in VCE VM. We expect students to maintain 90% attendance or above.

As VCE VM includes outcome-based assessment, classwork must be completed in class to meet authentication requirements. Absences can impact a student’s ability to successfully complete outcome tasks.

If your child is absent:

  • Please contact the Attendance Hotline.
  • A medical certificate may be required for extended or repeated absences.

We appreciate families supporting students to attend every day and arrive on time.

VET

Vocational Education and Training (VET) is a key component of the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM), providing students with practical, industry-based skills and nationally recognised qualifications that prepare them for employment, apprenticeships, or further training. Through hands-on learning in their TAFE Courses, students develop real-world experience alongside their school studies. Regular attendance is essential for success in VCE VM and VET programs, as courses are competency-based and require students to demonstrate practical skills and complete set learning outcomes. Consistent attendance ensures students can meet assessment requirements, successfully achieve their units, and maintain progress toward completing their VCE Vocational Major certificate.

If students need to be absent from their VET course, they should contact their Tafe teacher and the Kurnai attendance hotline.

Outcome Tasks

Outcome tasks are assessment activities that students must successfully complete to demonstrate their understanding and skills in each subject and to receive a Satisfactory grade at the end of each semester.

These tasks:

  • Are completed during class time.
  • Align with curriculum requirements.
  • Must meet authentication guidelines.

It is important that students:

  • Attend regularly.
  • Stay up to date with classwork.
  • Seek support early if they are experiencing difficulties.

Consistent effort throughout the semester will ensure students remain on track.

Work Placement

Work Placement is a compulsory requirement of the VCE VM program and provides valuable real-world learning experiences.

Placement Days

  • Students with VET on Wednesday will attend Work Placement on Friday.
  • Students with VET on Friday will attend Work Placement on Wednesday.

Year 12 Students

Year 12 students should now have their placements organised and be commencing soon.

If a Year 12 student has not yet secured a placement, they are required to attend school on Fridays (Periods 1–4) in Room 6W143, where staff will assist them in finding a suitable placement.

Year 11 Students

Year 11 students are being supported through their Work Related Skills (WRS) classes to secure placements. These should be arranged to begin within the next few weeks.

If students need to be absent from Work Placement, they are required to contact their employer and the school.

We appreciate families supporting students in meeting this important course requirement.

Lockers

Students who would like to use a locker must:

  • Bring their own lock.
  • Place it on any available locker that does not already have a lock.
  • Provide the locker number and details to the General Office.

This ensures we maintain accurate locker records.

Road to Zero Excursion

On Tuesday, our Year 12 VM and VPC students attended the Road to Zero program at the Melbourne Museum.

The excursion featured curriculum-linked sessions within an immersive Experience Space showcasing multi-sensory, interactive technologies focused on road safety. Students participated in engaging activities and created a digital campaign advertisement, which will be used in their Literacy classes as part of an Outcome Task.

Students were highly engaged throughout the day and produced thoughtful, high-quality advertisements.

Afterwards students were given the opportunity to explore other parts of the Melbourne Museum, such as the Triceratops: Fate of the Dinosaurs exhibition. They were also able to explore the city briefly before heading back by V/Line to the Latrobe Valley.

Overall, it was a productive and enjoyable experience

The Road to Zero Vision

Since 2000, more than 7,000 lives have been lost and 140,000 people seriously injured on Victorian roads. Behind every number is a family member, friend, colleague or teammate.

Every day, Victorians take over 14 million trips — by car, foot, bicycle or public transport. Each of these journeys should be safe.

We all make mistakes. However, a mistake on the road should not cost a life or result in serious injury. The goal is simple: zero lives lost and zero serious injuries.

By:

  • Designing forgiving roads,
  • Matching travel speeds to the vulnerability of the human body, and
  • Sharing responsibility for road safety,

Zero is possible.

Holocaust Museum

Upcoming Excursion

On Tuesday 21st April (the second day of Term 2), all Year 11 VCE VM students will have the opportunity to attend an excursion to the Holocaust Museum in Elsternwick.

This excursion supports learning in Literacy and provides important historical and social context to current classroom studies.

Further details, including consent and payment information, are available on Compass.

We look forward to a successful and productive term ahead!
