Everyday Counts!

At Boroondara Park Primary School, we know that attendance matters every single day. Research shows that attending school every day helps children build strong academic foundations, develop healthy social connections, and form positive lifelong habits. Daily attendance also supports emotional wellbeing and creates a sense of routine and belonging.

Missing even one day per fortnight adds up to four weeks of lost learning per year, and from Foundation to Year 12 this can total 1.5 years of schooling missed. This has a significant impact on both academic progress and social development.

Our School Attendance Goals

For the 2026 school year, Boroondara Park PS has set a target of 92% average attendance across the school. We are proud to share that we are currently sitting at 95%, and we thank all families for the positive habits and routines that support this strong result.

Family Holidays and Absences

We understand that sometimes family circumstances require travel during term time. If your child will be absent for a holiday or extended period:

  • Please inform your child’s teacher as early as possible.
  • This allows teachers to prepare appropriate learning tasks and adjust programs to support your child’s progress while away.
  • DET emphasises that family holidays should be scheduled during school breaks whenever possible.

Working Together

If your child is struggling with attendance—due to illness, anxiety, social challenges, or other concerns—please reach out. We are here to help. Open communication between home and school ensures that your child is supported both in their learning and wellbeing.
