Welcome to Kindergarten
What a joy it has been to welcome our Kindergarten students to St Patrick’s library. They have been introduced to our Junior Picture Book collection and have been exploring what it means to be confident, caring library users. From learning how to look after books, to returning them correctly, to lining up and having their loans scanned—our newest readers have made an impressive start.
A big thank‑you to our parents and carers for supporting this reading journey. Your help in ensuring library bags come to school each week makes a world of difference. A simple alert on your phone can be a great way to remember library day.
As these foundational skills become second nature, we look forward to introducing Kindergarten to the wonders of our non‑fiction collection in Term 2.
Congratulations, Kindergarten!
Wild About Reading
At St Patrick’s, our library theme for Term One is Wild About Reading and we’re inviting every student to join the adventure. The library is bursting with stories that spark curiosity, imagination, and a love of learning. We hope all our students can dive into a new book and let reading take them on a wild journey.
Each year, Sutherland Shire Libraries hold a Big Summer Read Challenge. Saisha from Year 6 was recently announced as a winner and presented with a certificate and book prizes for her wonderful achievement. Saisha is certainly one of our students who is wild about reading! Congratulations Saisha, we are proud of you!
Premier’s Reading Challenge 2026
The Premier’s Reading Challenge opens on February 23rd. All students in K-2 will be registered by St Patrick’s and will complete the Challenge in class time with their teacher. Students in Years 3-6 can choose to complete the PRC in their own time. Any books read since October 2025 can be counted towards this year’s Challenge so it is never too early to start reading!
Further information regarding PRC will be posted on Compass in the coming weeks.
Happy Chinese New Year!
February 17 marked the beginning of the 2026 Chinese New Year and the Year of the Horse, a symbol of energy, creativity, and forward momentum. Families across the world celebrate with traditions such as sharing festive meals, giving red envelopes, and enjoying vibrant cultural performances. It is a time for fresh beginnings and coming together as a community.
Please come to St Patrick’s library to view our Chinese New Year art works! Our fabulous art teacher Mrs Ng and her talented students have created an impressive display.
Wishing all who celebrate a joyful Lunar New Year!
