Assistant Principal's report

If you have any questions or queries about your child's education, friendships or
wellbeing, I would love to chat to you about the best ways we can support you and your family. You can be assured of confidentiality and I'm also always open for a 'gee parenting can be hard' chat if you need a friendly ear as well! I have two boys of my own, one in Primary school and one in Secondary school, so that makes me well and truly 'in the trenches' with you!
Every day the wonderful Roxie is at school with me and ready for tummy rubs, walks or cuddles (and she'll accept all 3 happily from kids and grown ups!), but please be assured she is always with a staff member and always on her lead so if your child does not want to be too close to the school dogs that's ok too, just chat to your child's teacher.
Roxie is joined by Journey as our other regular school dog (Journey is a labrador who belongs to our Business Manager Melissa) and occasionally also Melon (Mr McClare's dog).
Last week I was reminded that it is true, our kids are always watching! My Friday morning started out a bit bumpy when my special Friday morning treat of a large coffee fell (in slow motion!) into my belongings, my shoes and ultimately the carpark gutter. I'm sure that many grown-ups in our community can empathise with the sense of loss and despair I felt in that brief moment! A tiny problem in a big day, so on we rolled... but the reason I share this story is that although at the time I thought only my own son and one other staff member were witness to this sad tale, I later found out that another Kalinda student had seen this unfold and used it as news for their class that morning!
Later on Friday, I was invited to 1/2B to hear about the conversations that the class had had about examples of Resilience in real life. The students had heard a (blow by blow) account of my sad tale and used it to describe other examples of how someone might face a setback and show resilience even in the face of disappointment. I can't tell you how relieved I was that my example was a positive one!
Not only was this a great opportunity grabbed by a teacher to use a real life example and build our students' understanding of positive values but also serves as a reminder that our little people are always watching. How would you want your little mishap to be told at school? It gives pause for thought doesn't it!?

(PS. A funny little highlight for me was many little grave faces telling me how sorry they were for me because they could picture exactly how sad mummy and daddy would be about dropping their coffee or special treat! )
