This week, Chess Club began at lunchtimes in the Science room.  We are lucky enough to have Michael Gluzman training the students.

Michael is an International Master and Victorian champion.  He has represented Australia at two Olympiads and has students who are in the World Junior Championships. He is currently the Head Coach of the East St Kilda and Caulfield Chess Clubs.

The students were able to work in a Beginners or Intermediate group to begin with. Each week Michael will teach a new skill and encourage each child to improve their skills.

A couple of weeks ago some Year 6s and their parents drove to Geelong and back for a party and the kids were so shocked at what they saw - burnt highways, thousands of dead trees, a black ground, birds flying just looking for something to eat.

So, they decided to do something about it! They got together and came up with a plan to (with some help from parents) go somewhere and we decided we were going to do a fundraiser. We just didn't know what we were going to do.

After talking to our parents, we decided to sell Zooper Doopers at recess. The parents and teachers supported and helped us, and the plan was hatched. It became a reality. After some weeks of buying Zooper Doopers we had no freezer space left, it was go time!

On Wednesday, the 4th week 2, we started to sell Zooper Doopers at a rapid pace. Soon, the money tub was overflowing, our masterplan was almost complete, all that was left was to donate the $1121.86, which was what we got overall, but in the Zooper Dooper sale we raised $930.30.

The next plan is to make lemonade and bake a sale. So, get ready to taste our next delicious plan.

A big thank you to our parents and Mrs. Bath for helping set up and sell and to Mr. Thompson for approving the sale.

Finally, to the students for bringing your gold coins and donations!
