Professional Learning Community 1 (Grade 1)

Professional Learning Community 2 (Grade 2)

Professional Learning Community 3 (Grade 3)

In Literacy this week, students will focus on the text ‘Jetty Jumping’ and make predictions about the genre from the front cover. Features of the text will be discussed such as Who are the characters?, Is the setting important? and  How do the pictures help you understand the text? Rich, descriptive vocabulary will be chosen from the text to assist the students with their Narrative Writing piece that will be written over the week.

In Numeracy, students will identify and practise their addition and subtraction strategies such as ‘Friends of 10’, doubles and building to the nearest 10. They will play the game ‘Round The Garden’ where they add and subtract 1, 10 or 100 from a given number. Using their place value knowledge, students will keep a running total as they calculate their answer.

Thank you to those parents and carers who visited our school on Monday. The classrooms were buzzing with excitement as students showed their family around.

Last week we had the best time at Earth Ed. Students were palaeontologists for the day and dug for evidence of fossils in sand then interpreted what they thought the fossil was. We have many budding scientists here at Delacombe!

Have a great week,

PLC 4 Newsletter

Well, what a busy time we have had already in PLC 4.

Last week was swimming and all grades did an amazing job. Thank you to Phil for driving the bus each day, we all appreciated that!! We also had an incursion from the Eureka Centre to start our PBL topic of Rules and Government. Students got to learn about emblem and flags.

This week we kicked off with our ‘Open House’ where students introduced their parents/guardians to their teacher, shared their new classroom and any work they have been proud of. Thank you to all those who could attend.

This week we are working on solving words in Reading, writing a new narrative about a ‘Candyland’ in writing and discussing place value and renaming in Numeracy.

Hope you all have a terrific fortnight.

Professional Learning Community 5 (Grade 5)

Grade 5s have being settling into a regular routine after our very successful Learning to Learning program ceased last week. The transition to regular learning has seen a positive start with students embracing expectations and growth mindsets in an encouraging manner. Grade 5s have continued with the theme of ‘fire’ within their Writing narratives and have been doing a tremendous job of being really adaptive in their ability to enhance their pieces. We have shifted gears in Numeracy and have commenced looking at place value and number patterns through our weekly challenging tasks which has seen students build perseverance and determination while undertaking these activities. We have some really exciting events coming up of over the next couple of weeks with our Sovereign Hill experience and Athletics day. Both are terrific opportunities for our students to demonstrate a sense of pride in both an external and internal school setting. Please make sure that compass is being regularly checked for updates regarding these events and please continue to champion students’ Home Reading.

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grade 6)

What an incredible start to the year our Grade 6 students have had. We have now completed our ‘Learning to Learn program’. Everyone has settled in well and we look forward to continuing this positive start for the rest of the term!! Monday the 19th of February saw students and parents come and visit the school to gain an insight into our DPS learning experiences in the Generalist classroom, Chinese, Digi Tech, Physical Education, Kitchen, Tutoring, Visual Arts & Wellbeing (Re-set room). There was such a buzz around the school and we thank you for coming along

Over the last couple of weeks, we have had a big focus on ensuring that all students have a hat on their head when they are outside. Otherwise they need to play in their designated undercover playing area. Please make sure you remind your child about this.

CAMP!!!

Monday 26th-Wednesday

Not long now until we venture to Melbourne, for what is going to be an AMAZING camp. Hopefully by now the Taylor Swift craze in the city has died down. Just a reminder that the Camp Handbook has been made available with drop off/pick up times at Wendouree Train Station and that any student with regular medication that needs to be taken at specific times must bring it with the completed Medical Form. We look forward to sharing many laughs and good times as a group.

Thank you for your time, have a lovely day.
