Year 2 News

It’s been fun in Year 2!

It's been a wonderful start to the year for our Year 2 students as they began their learning adventures. With the implementation of Literacy Daily 5 and Maths Daily 3, our year 2s have been engaged in an active approach to Literacy and Numeracy that encourages independence and deepens understanding.

Through these structured frameworks, students can explore various literacy activities and math concepts at their own pace, enhancing both their skills and confidence.

Literacy

Also, our Year 2s have embraced the 6 + 1 Traits of Writing, focusing on essential traits such as Organization, Voice, and Word Choice.

They were excited when they were told their Year 2 pen pals’ names from Beaumaris Primary School. The students have already written their first letters and are looking forward to receiving one back from their pen pals.

Maths and Daily 3

In Mathematics, students have been delving into place value, revisiting and refining their understanding of this concept. The students have enjoyed playing games and completing a variety of activities. As we continue our maths learning, we look forward to seeing the growth and achievements of our Year 2 students throughout the year.

Inquiry

Our students have begun their first Unit of inquiry, exploring the theme of "How We Express Ourselves." With the central idea that communication is influenced by feelings and emotions, our students have been exploring emotions and how to manage them through developing their coping strategies.

Students have begun weekly lessons from The Resilience Project which have linked in well with our first unit of inquiry focusing on emotional literacy.

Cyber Safety

On Wednesday February 21, year 2 students were lucky to participate in an incursion held by Trent from the Cyber Safety Project. Students earnt some valuable strategies to use online if something happens that does not look or feel right.

They learnt about the STOP acronym which stands for, stay silent, tell an adult, get out of the program, and play something else. Please enjoy watching the video of the students singing along with Trent!
