Sport

On March 14th Brigid McClusky and myself had the pleasure of taking a small group of 17 senior students to the divisional volleyball competition at Cobblebank stadium in Melton. The students had a fantastic day out and represented the school fabulously.

While the boys did not win any sets or matches, they rapidly improved throughout the day, and I was amazed to see how much learning can take place when there is an immediate and worthwhile goal. From their first match where they lost comprehensively to Sunbury Downs College (3-20, 8-20) their second match against Alice Miller (13-20, 15-20) and third match against Staughton College (18-20, 17-20) were much more competitive and displayed vastly improved skills.  I could not have been prouder and thought they really did themselves credit.

The girls only had two matches to play, due to Melton Christian College forfeiting on the day, however they also had a great day out, winning their first match against Sunbury Downs College (20-16, 20-14) and losing their second pool match to the eventual division winner Melton College (8-20, 11-20). The girls played with great sportspersonship, poise and a cheerful manner. They genuinely wanted to be there and with each other representing the school and it showed as they were a delight to watch. A big thankyou to John Hayward for organising the excursion and permissions as well as to Brigid McClusky who was fantastic as the girls coach; giving kind words of encouragement and advice throughout the day.
