A Spotlight on Learning

A Spotlight on Learning in the MLC on Springvale  Campus

What an amazing start to the year for the students in the Middle Learning Centre (MLC)! All students have settled in extremely well, quickly adapting to MLC routines and embracing new and exciting challenges throughout the term.

In Reading, students have been learning to summarise what they have read, by identifying the most important parts of a text. They have developed the skill to locate specific details efficiently, using text features to skim and scan. Additionally, students are beginning to in connecting ideas within a text, such as establishing connections between images and written content and interpreting data presented in tables and charts.

In Writing, our wonderful students have written about what makes them unique. They focused on what makes them special and what they are most proud of. They focused on how to use punctuation to communicate these ideas clearly. Currently, the MLC students are working on writing persuasive texts, focusing on using paragraphs to organise their ideas and using persuasive devices to make their arguments stronger.

In Mathematics, students have developed their understanding of how to represent numbers and their value. Students have practised how to make, name and record a variety of numbers, as well as using tools such as a number line to order numbers.

In Projects, students are learning about the importance of how to use devices safely and responsibly. They identified safe and unsafe behaviour and reflected on themselves as a user of digital technology. In Social and Emotional Learning, students have been learning about minor, medium and major problems and where they sit on the catastrophe scale. They have learnt a variety of strategies how to solve particular problems, including how to regulate their emotions and who to go to when further help is needed.

We cannot believe how fast Term 1 is flying by! We are very excited for our year 3 students to participate in the NAPLAN next week, showcasing all of their wonderful abilities and knowledge and we wish them all the very best!
