Term 1, Week 7
We are coming into a very busy time with a number of activities taking place over the next two weeks, so please take the time to check what’s on and what is appropriate to you and your family.
Please make sure that you read the following:
Last Tuesday the 20th of February the PFA hosted their first Annual General Meeting for the year with wine and cheese in the multi purpose room. It was a fantastic turnout with a number of new parents from Prep attending.
Whilst we have a number of parents on the PFA who are willing to assist and co-ordinate events, we have still yet appointed a president or co-presidents for 2024. Co-Presidents is an idea that has been suggested that can work extremely well and makes the role much easier to manage. If you are interested in the President role or being a co-president or would like to discuss it further, could you please contact me in the office.
The next PFA Meeting is on Tuesday the 19th of March at 7pm in the staff room (office area).
Our Requests for School Tours have begun already! Enrolments for Prep 2025 are now open and we encourage all families to submit their applications as soon as possible. If you have a child or you know someone wanting to tour schools for their child, please encourage them to book a school tour by contacting Nicole in our front office or scanning the QR code and booking online. If you are not able to make these tours please note that you are also welcome to call to make a time that does work for you.
Applications are due Monday 6th of May
The School Photos including sibling photos will be taken on Tuesday, 5th March.
Please Note: All Students must be in the correct Summer Uniform for the Photos on Tuesday, 5th March. Orders for both these days must be done online via the Advanced Life School Photography Website (Link Below) prior to the day the photos are taken.
For more information and how to order online, please view the flyer in this newsletter.
Tomorrow, the students are to wear their sports uniform to school as they will be participating in the cricket inflatables activities. the students are really excited and are looking forward to these activities.
Next Thursday the 7th of March, is a casual clothes day for all students. All students who come in casual clothes are expected to bring in a $2 coin which will be donated to the Story Dogs program that we have here at SJV.
Thank you to those who came to have Pizza with the Principal last week. It was a fantastic night with many students and parents in attendance from Years Prep to Year 2.
Thank you to the many parents who attended the parent information sessions the other week. These meetings are an important opportunity to build a positive working relationship between home and school to ensure we can provide rich learning opportunities for all students. Thank you to the teachers for their preparation for the sessions. We hope you found them very informative. All information that was presented on the slides was shared with parents by Miss Heiberg.
Tomorrow, Friday the 1st March the school will be participating in the annual Clean Up Australia Day. All children are encouraged to bring a pair of gardening gloves or a pair of tongs to help with our collection of rubbish here at school. Our student Environment Group leaders will coordinate the activities on the day.
I am asking for everyone's assistance please. I have received a number of complaints at the re-commencement of term regarding some drivers not complying with parking restrictions and perhaps more concerning the “no entry” signs on Brisbane Terrace. These concerns have also been reported to the Police by members of the community.
This is a massive safety issue and we need to ensure that ALL parents/grandparents are following these rules especially during drop off and pick up times. In light of these concerns, there will now be a police presence during the peak times of 8.30am-9.30am and 3pm - 4pm for enforcement of the road rules.
I also understand and accept that it may not always be parents from the SJV school community but need the assistance of everyone to spread the message and ensure safety on the roads around our school. I would like to thank the Victorian Police force for partnering with us and being a presence in our community.
Today, our Swimming team participated in the Mordialloc District Swimming Carnival at the Noble Park pool where thirteen district schools participated. At the conclusion of the carnival schools are placed based on their aggregate points, in this overall standing we finished in the top 10 which was a fantastic effort considering that a number of the schools have 500 plus students.
Thank you to everyone who supported the team, the parents who drove them to early morning training, the teachers who assisted at training, Lauren Barrett (Cooper Barrett's mum) and especially Mrs McAllister who coordinated the team.
Congratulations on a tremendous team effort!
Don't forget to focus on Keep Shining. The World Needs Your Light!!
